Any problem between Matt Bomer and Ryan Murphy?

Matt has habit of promoting work of his close friends on twitter. Specially for Ryan Murphy. Last year he did for Scream Queens and The American Crime Story even though he was not part of either those shows.

He always promotes work of his lesser known friends and big stars(e.g Ryan Gosling).

However this year was different.

He didn't promote Ryan Murphy's Scream queen season 2 or American Horror Story on twitter .But he did for Magnificent Seven.

For scream Queens, I can somewhat understand since Matt is not part of it. But he is part of American Horror story (even for few episodes).

Why is that? Is he pissed that Ryan always overlooks him?

Finn Wintrock which had very small role in The Normal Heart and was literally unknown till 2014. But in season 4 of AHS, Murphy gave him very strong role and made him star.

While Matt got a very tepid guest role.

In season 5, almost every regular star cast from Kathy Bates to Dennis o hare, Angella Basset, Sarah Paulson, Lady gaga, Chole Soveginy , Evan Peter, Wes Bently, Fin Winntrock got good and decent rolea

Only Matt and Cheyenne Jackson got weak roles.

I can understand for Jackson since he is not friends with Murphy. But what about Matt?

Why he always get shortchanged? Yes Normal heart was great role but that role was already written by Larry Kramer. Murphy didn't rewrote it.

But when Murphy writes his own shows then why he gives Matt such lame roles(Glee, New Normal, AHS Season 4, AHS Season 5)?

It is really frustrating.

Do you also think that Matt Bomer is slightly pissed at Murphy ?

Sorry for my long rant

Sorry for bad English

I have no idea about Matt's feelings about Ryan, but I also have noticed Ryan is not giving Matt good roles since The Normal Heart, and I dont get it since Matt was very committed to the movie and even Ryan admitted it saying Matt was sick due to the weight loss and he felt bad for him and forced him to stop because Matt took very seriously his role and it was too much...
It is clear Matt is a good actor and any director would be satisfied with his piece of work, and it seemed Ryan aprreciated it, but obviously after that movie, he has not offered him again a role so good..

His role in American Horror Story Hotel started really strong and interesting but it lost interest and it ended up being a lame role, nothing compared to Evan's or Bentley's.If it had been written differently, it would have been better, but in each new episode he had less to offer and I felt he could have given much more..Not his fault, of course, but it was sad a talented actor like him was reduced to play a character so dull and stupid..In the first episode he looked dark, mysterious, intriguing and as if he acted kind of a master of sex/bondage, but after,he acted like a sad puppy /angry teenager.I did not like the nature of his character, the change it had ,going from a dark guy to an angry depressive..
It had been better if he had played a villain, evil guy like Mr March

I can understand Matt feels he doesnt want to promote Ryan's work anynomore since Ryan has his own "favourite" people to offer good roles, and it seems Matt is not on the list..In the new season of AHS it seems Matt will only appear as guest star maybe in 2-3 episodes, since his name doesnt appear on the credits so he is not a main character or co-star..I felt dissapointed when I saw it..:(

Anyway it is not just Ryan, I can't understand he got a small part in Magnificent Seven when he might have played one of the magnificent or why nobody offers him a lead role in a big production, or play a superheroe when he has the type..
I am going to start to think it is a homophobia problem because I dont get, him being a good actor is not getting more roles..
So far his only future project is "The last tycoon" but compared to other actors who have more scripts on the table I feel he is being a bit ignored...
So sad :(

Me too i'am sad that Matt is not seen to offer great roles, regarding a possible problem between Matt and Ryan,it is possible but may be is there a problem between Simon and Ryan.

I find it odd that he's not promoting AHS season 6 on his twitter while he's posting about Magnificent Seven even though it's a really small part.

He also didn't congratulate Sarah or Ryan&the American Crime Story team after their Emmy wins.Something's going on,I hope they can work it out.The "Anything" controversy plus this,I hope he's doing OK.

Yeah,Magnificent Seven opened recently and he has been promoting it, however American Horror started 2 weeks ago and he has not said one word.
I also find it weird, considering he always dedicates words to his partners and movies/projects.It seems he is ignoring the AHS whole thing..
It happened the same thing with a spanish actress who worked in a tv series, she stopped posting about the project where she worked since the director was giving better roles to others and the character written for her was weak and pointless. Then she started tweeting about a new project where she was co-star.

Maybe Matt feels ignored or not well treated by the AHS team, and he is promoting the project of Magnificent Seven where he has felt comofortable, even it being a small part.
It is really weird he has no said anything, and much more others like Cheyenne Jackson or Cuba Gooding are being shown in the credits and he is out..It really seems like he is being treated different...
Lady Gaga was busy with her new music album and I think she did not want to be in the whole season to prepare her album, but Matt??

I see where you and the others on this board on another thread are coming from but I have a different opinion about this.

First, Matt has stayed away from twitter since the whole trans controversy. He does pop in once in a while but overall, I get a feeling that he's so over twitter.

Regarding Ryan Murphy & AHS. I can totally see Matt wanting to do Donovan's role with a chance of getting to work closely with Lady Gaga. He loves working closely with creative people. Donovan wasn't a bad role. He started out with a bang. Murphy gave Matt one of the best openers to the show ever! True he lost steam as the season went along but I really don't think that's because of anything personal against Matt. First, I have said this before, AHS doesn't write great roles for men anyway, second these characters are pretty much written on the fly as the season goes along. The problem with Hotel was too many characters. Even Kathy Bates' character got compromised. Sara Paulson too.

I personally love Ryan Murphy. He's a trend setter in so many ways. I love the fact that he hires actors, who are very talented, but are written off by the industry for either being old, gay, or whatever. But honestly his strength lies in writing strong female characters.

I think Matt is busy with a secret project, that he said he was working on. He's been pretty busy last year. He probably wanted to take some time off for his family too.

That's my take on this. Let's see what role Matt plays this season AHS.

I can understand for Jackson since he is not friends with Murphy. But what about Matt?
Wow what kind of gay pride is being shown here? I just googled Cheyenne Jackson and he is openly gay too. You can tolerate with Ryan Murphy who is gay overlooks Cheyenne Jackson's talent? Perhaps Ryan Murphy isn't a fan of nepotism? When you're not sincere in doing your job this is what you get and deserve.

Don't know if anything is off between Ryan and Matt at the moment but I also feel we shouldn't read too much into Matt not promoting / congratulating any AHS or Ryan related projects or wins on Twitter. He has sort of been away from Twitter only RTing stuff or tweeting on occasion. After that whole trans backlash I think he's just not very comfortable with being on there. He has always been private and doesn't seem like the confrontational and vocal type. I have seen celebs engage in petty fights on Twitter and that is just so NOT Matt. I bet he has just decided to minimize his Twitteractions and doubt anything is up between him and Ryan.

That being said I do agree that Ryan doesn't use Matt's talent to the fullest. He's always given a side / eye candy type of role. While Felix was a good role for Matt a lot of it was him being the perfect beautiful love Ned finds only to lose later on. Why does Ryan not give him meatier roles like the ones given to Wes or Finn in AHS? Matt would kill it in a role like that. I've seen all AHS seasons so far (except the most recent one) and its a pretty good show (with some damn creepy themes but good nonetheless). Would have been nice to see Matt given a proper role as opposed to just seeing him parade around in his underwear (not that I dislike like but still).

I totally get the frustration of Matt not having more opportunities to showcase his talent. I just don't think that applies to his collaboration with Ryan. I don't think he deliberately gives Matt lesser roles or opportunities to shine, from what I've seen so far. His casting Matt in Glee gave Matt the chance to show off his comedic chops, but also his incredible dancing and singing skills and Matt took full advantage. He gave Matt the coveted, Tony award winning role of Felix in TNH, despite Larry Kramer's initial reservations and Matt gave an absolutely gorgeous and devastating award winning performance.

As to AHS, I only started to watch when Matt was cast in Freakshow, so I don't have a history with this show. Matt's role as Andy was brief, but memorable nonetheless. However, when given a larger ongoing role in Hotel, I don't think Donovan was cast as a marginal character. My gripe with Matt's role in Hotel had to do with the writng of the character. Donovan started out with a bang, but was never fully realized. That was my gripe with every character in Hotel. Veteran award winning actors struggled to overcome the poor writing and seemed marginalized. I know people will single out Liz Taylor or other characters they were drawn to, but even Liz lacked a coherent narrative.

What Ryan did give Matt with Donovan was an opportunity to display not only his incredible sensuality but a smoking sexual connection with GaGa. GaGa who is known as much for her sexuality as her musicality was totally credible in her interactions with Matt. The opening 15 minutes when there was not a word spoken between she and Matt were for me the most sexy and sensual of the entire show. The sexual chemistry was palpable, and what it did was lay to waste the lie that an out gay man could not credibly play a straight romantic role. In my opinion, that was much more a gift and opportunity to Matt's career than a fully realized Donovan. I'm waiting to see Matt have that opportunity playing a well written fully realized character. We might get that in TLT.
