What you basically have here (and this could cover many directors/producers in Hollywood) is a man who is:
- white
- liberal
- Jewish, and yet doesn't practice what the Torah teaches (probably doesn't even visit Temple unless an old relative guilts him into it)
- has a pedigree in Hollywood, due to both his parents being movie producers
- been taught to hate his own ethnicity and have no pride in his country, due to the shitty, selective schooling he's grown up with, and yet refuses to move away to another country where he can feel more "appreciated"
- grown up in a place where he never got the chance to meet people who had viewpoints outside the liberal narrative
- got willfully trapped in the Hollywood Bubble, so not only is he rich, but he has no idea what the world is like outside the Los Angeles area (save for possibly parts of Canada, Australia, or England, where many directors go to shoot films these days)
- was probably not as talented as writers and directors before him, so he had to build on the success of others who actually had original ideas to start with, and then he uses quick cash grabs when his works don't sell like they used to
- is very jaded and worldly
- loves certain movie franchises, but wants to re-create them in his own weird, twisted image
- only pretends to give a shit about what the fans wanted until he got rich and didn't have his career hinging on unknown ticket sales
JJ wasn't as bad as some of his peers in Tinseltown, but I was never a big fan of his work
Jews are not white. White people stem from Celtic and Germanic tribes. Jews are Khazars (a mix of turkish and other tribes) from the old Khazaria in modern day Ukraine (parts of it anyway.)
shareOh Jews can be very white, particularly the Ashkenazi Jews; Jewish people of Germanic descent, who are the largest group of Jews here in America.
And JJ Abrams is very Jewish. He has curly dark hair, a large nose, wears glasses (because bad eyesight is a common genetic trait in the Jewish community), and lives in Hollywood, one of the few areas on the US where Jews are in a very large concentration and wield a considerable amount of power.
Super Jew. Doing whatever the Jewish mafia tells him too. They run 3/4s of Hollywood.
shareThey're children... making movies having not lived, nor read, apart from pop culture and a few MFA courses...
That's why even when the movies are technically compentantly made, there is a lack of... experience... either lived or from reading widely outside of the narrow scope of filmmaking and pop-culture...
Werner Herzog talks about this... The importance of reading widely and to use life to inform filmmaking...
It doesn't mean every movie needs to be an arthouse movie or an epic, but if we consider Ridley Scott (far from a scholar), there is so much in his movies that draws on Western cannon, whether aesthetics/painting/sculpture, or poetry, litrature and history... in addition to being about cool aliens, suspense, jump scares and actions scenes...
Vittorio Storaro, the legendary cinematorgrapher, talks about the importance of drawing on the other arts when making a movie... Not just the expected music and painting, but also scuplture, litrature and philosophy... I think we can add the lived experience to this as well...
I think we think alike:

indeed
shareI think a reason they (JJ and other directors like him) sort get way with it is the world and its standards has lessened somewhat over the past couple of decades (say since the late 90s) not quite Idiocracy but its like it doesn't matter so much now that movies are juvenile or 'dumb' mega budget 'theme park rides' and have all these blatant plot holes, contrivances, fan service etc like if a teen man child had made them. Like alot of film reviewers of yesteryear who might've help kept standards high have died off and its now all 20-30y old reviewers (or just 'film twitter') who grew up with this style of movie making and don't really matter a point of watching movies before they were born (ok they'll watch the obvious stuff like SW OT,Indys, ET and some of the previous movies to belated current day sequels . But will probably moan on SM at how un PC they are) just like the way decades ago 20-30y olds didn't really watch B&W stuff from the 1930s/40s etc
But as you say someone like Ridley Scott or even Cameron whatever they do you can be near guaranteed a rich film experience (I thought Alien Covenant was a really interesting movie while trying to appeal to the modern audience with abit of 'Aliens' style action but it seems most were like 'dis film succccks! bring on the Avengers!!')
The movie Barton Fink predicted this guy
shareA joke. He is "The Recycler," just recycling stuff from the 1980's he liked as a child.
shareI love many comments on this topic. I agree, many modern directors never actually lived, they are "radical chic". And i think the situation in the tv landscape is even worse, even in Netflix or HBO shows. All the writers of tv shows always write the same topics
shareJ.J. = Jar Jar, so I'm guessing a Gungan.
shareI think he is, at heart, a fan geek... that is, someone who isn't original or creative, just someone who is way into other people's creative work.
And like many modern fan geeks, he seems to have no frame of reference other than pop culture.
