Framing Britney Spears begs the question: When will Justin Timberlake be held accountable for his misogyny?

The New York Times Presents documentary "lays out the ways in which Timberlake took the narrative of their breakup and used it to burn Spears at the stake, exploiting the video for his 2002 solo single 'Cry Me a River' to cast himself as the wounded lover seeking revenge against a cheating partner who happened to bear a striking resemblance to his ex," says Alex Zaragoza. "While that's certainly a cheap shot, he took his jilted ex story on tour, airing out the private details of their sex life in countless interviews so as to tarnish the image that of the innocent virgin that had been crafted for her." Zaragoza adds that "throwing women under the bus has clearly been Timberlake's M.O. when it's come to building his career," noting the 2004 Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident that he eventually apologized for after being asked to return for the 2019 Super Bowl. As Terron Moore, editorial director at MTV and Logo, tweeted, Terron Moore, editorial director at MTV and Logo, tweeted, "the ascent of justin timberlake in the wreckage of both britney spears and janet jackson is really something we have to answer for. the ascent of justin timberlake in the wreckage of both britney spears and janet jackson is really something we have to answer for."

Justin didn't ruin Britney, and Janet. They did it to themselves.

reply

Fair point. As much hilarious it would be to see Timberlake being cancelled - but Britney and Janet ruined them themselves.

reply

Never, I hope.

Stupid sluts get what they deserve.

I watched those Janet Jackson documentaries. And it was interesting to see background of that boob incident.

Both of them were asked to apologize. And Justin did to save his career and to just let it go. Because clearly he and his team saw that little prank went too far. While Janet never bothered and just vanished. It was her choice.

Her career would cave continue for a few years if she would admit and sincerely apologize. It was stupid prank that backfired. And many people were fired and their careers destroyed because she wanted to have attention. There were ordinary studio and stadium workers who were blamed for not stopping it and letting it air. And they were fired. Because this rich celebrity wanted attention. Did Janet Jaskcon held accountable for it? At least by press? No she wasnt. She is always portrayed as victim.

If she would admit it and apologize then people would let it go. But she never did and so people didnt forgave her.

And people dont seem to realize that she was almost 38 years old when it happened. She was at then end of her career as hot popstar. She wasnt some 23 years old up and coming star. Thats why her career went downhill. Times were changing. She didnt have any hit songs to chart. She would soon go into career oblivion no matter what.

Nice post.

While Cry Me a River may have been a cheap shot at Britney, a woman like Taylor Swift has made a career out of taking cheap shots at her exes. Why don't I hear anything about that?

As for the "wardrobe malfunction" incident. I can't believe anybody still believes Janet was an innocent victim in all of that. Hell, it was probably her idea to expose her boob!

I dislike Timberlake a lot, but he can't be blamed for their downfall. Britney is mentally ill and Janet was already a has-been.

Definitely, to all of this.
