One of the most underrated actors, ever!

If you see him in My Man Godfrey, you'll laugh yourself silly!

Possibly he doesn't get much respect because he made it look so easy.

I don’t think he was ever underrated. He’s everyone’s favorite. Even now. You know he was born in 1892.

The Thin Man is everything. All of them. One of my favorites was One Way Passage - don’t know how I ever saw it or when, but it was a good one.

I wish he was! All the old threads weren't transferred over, and as long as this has been here on MovieChat, this is only the second thread. There should be more. A lot more.

Wunnerful wunnerful actor. Huge star in his day. One thing I always loved was the opening credits to My Man Godfrey - so art deco. He, to me, embodied the cinematic ethos of the30s :

He was truly one of the greats of all time.

reply

Amen to that!

I have read that he was devastated by Jean Harlow’s death.

reply

He quit making movies for a while after that. Devastated probably seemed like a small word to him at the time.

For women there's something called "widow's brain." I went through it recently. It's a protective mechanism against the worst of the grief. I don't know if there's a "widower's brain," but if there is, he wouldn't have been capable of making movies during that time.

Melvin Douglas too.

reply

Yes -- a fellow who was known for his serious roles, but was great at comedy.
