He should have directed the first Captain America movie. It started off pretty good but turned bland. McT would have made that movie much much better. Right up his ally.
Not a World of Warcraft player myself but he might have been able to hammer something of quality out of it. Also think that Atomic Blonde could have been OK if it was utterly retread and a different director. McT would have fit if they made major plot changes.
Other movies in the last few decades that would have been improved by his hand?
i wouldn't mind him taking on world of warcraft. never played it, never saw it but if it could be close to something like a conan the barbarian i'd be interested.
Nope. He hired some well known Hollywood detective to wire tap the producer of the worst movie he ever directed, Rollerball. When the detective got busted for lots of that kind of thing, he went down with him.
They say that he is hated in Hollywood now. I'd like to know why he wanted that producer tapped.
OMG best answer. Imagine two from him instead of TWINE and DAD. In fact, any Bond lead directed by him. I'd have gone to see this new one if he directed it (first Bond film I don't have interest in seeing)
Dredd was perfect. I would not change a thing.
Didn't much care for the writing of Snowpiercer so I don't think a better director would have menat much.
The rest I agree. McT would have made those much better.
That's a very good suggestion. I think he'd have been the perfect director for that first Captain America film. The Russo Brothers knocked it out of the park with the next two films, but the first one is one of the weaker entries in the MCU, and a little McTiernan magic would have been ideal.
Yes, when I look at his resume I see nothing but films about real people doing real people things. Maybe they could have switched from Red Skull to a Predator to lure him in?
You don't seem to understand what he's saying in that interview. He's not saying he wants films about literal real people. He's saying he wants characters that represent reality, which is quite different, and in all honesty, a Captain America film could be exactly that. Predator was that, so was Die Hard. The Winter Soldier was that. Honestly, after listening to what he said, I think he's even more qualified to have made the first Captain America film, because he'd have made a film that told a relatable, real story rather than the poorly conceived action film we got.
I'm not refusing to admit anything. I'd never seen that interview, so I watched the part you linked to. What I heard him say was that movies are no longer about real people, they are about unrelatable archetypes and overused cliches, and he wants to make films telling real stories about real people.
You are asserting that means he wants only to make stories completely grounded in reality, with no supernatural or hyperreal elements to them whatsoever. You can even take it to mean he only wants to make documentaries or biopics from here on it.
I believe he's open to making any type or genre of film, as long as the film is about real people facing real issues. It doesn't matter if the protagonists are soldiers stuck in a jungle who have to fight a CGI'ed alien or farmers trying to eke out a living in troubled times, as long as the stories and characters aren't over-the-top camp, he'll do it.
If I'm misunderstanding him, then I'm wrong, but that's how I interpret what he said.
Do not tell me what I am asserting. Your strawman has nothing to do with my position.
I’ve already made my assertions on this topic, so if you want to know what they are then go back and read them, and I’ve linked to McTiernan’s own words… and it’s clear that he has zero interest in making a Marvel superhero film.
"Telling the truth." What you're doing is trolling for arguments. You can't accept that your opinion is only that, an opinion. Rather than discuss one another's opinions like adults, you treat a conversation like a debate in which you are tasked with proving a point.
We both listened to what McTiernan said, and we each interpreted it differently. We could have had an interesting discussion about that, but instead you adopted an "I'm right and you're wrong and if you disagree with me you're a dummy!" stance that leaves no room for any friendly chit chat. That's not honesty, that's immaturity.
