I have been vocal over the years about my dislike of Manson as a person and cut ties with him nearly 25 years ago. As I said at the time, the passage from Manson’s memoir is a complete fabrication. I was infuriated and offended back when it came out and remain so today.
He is rehashing a dislike of Manson 25 years ago. In what way does that resonate as blast? Or disliking someone? You probably equally think flaming is the same as not liking somebody.
Trent Reznor's a bigger 90s fossil than Marilyn Manson. He's also musical hack like Marilyn Manson. I guess rehashing old grievances during the days of COVID19 is the new "news" in the entertainment industry?
Since when does being old mean you aren’t a good musician?
I’m seeing a lot of people on this obligatory “me too” post saying shit like, “who cares, he isn’t relevant anymore”, or “what a fossil”, or “This isn’t the 90’s anymore.”
I have news for all of you...and regardless of how these musicians are as people (I’m speaking in musical terms), these “old” musicians you’re bashing for being from earlier decades, along with bands like The Rolling Stones, Metallica, and other great bands from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s who are still playing...they are all WAY better than any of the garbage music you people find “relevant” today, and while I was a never a big NIN fan (but Manson had quite a few bad ass tunes)...they are both included in the artists who are a million times more talented than the dog shit lip syncing pop drek you all find popular today.
I saw Manson live in 2001, and the show was phenomenal! So even if he is a shitty abuser, which is entirely possible, yet hasn’t been confirmed by anyone other than Evan Rachel Wood saying he did stuff 10 years ago, bashing his talent because you think he abused someone or “looks weird” are some of the weakest arguments against musical talent I’ve ever heard.
I’m not even close to sorry. That really needed to be said, because as a somewhat younger guy (37) who loves older music, heavy music, older movies, etc., the “it sucks because it’s old” argument is beyond pathetic, and one of the dumbest insults ever made against ANYTHING...at least until people started calling other people “Karen”.
He may be guilty. Or not. Was he fucked up, weird, controversial? Well, the guy was actually blamed by moronic parents for the Columbine massacre in 1999 because the kids listened to his music (along with The Matrix), when people were looking for anything to blame for that disgusting act. So yes, but that does not change the fact that he was a HUGE artist in his day, and in the heavy metal genre he is very talented.
Both MM and TR's music to me was just schlocky pop rock. Both borrowed heavily from underground industrial artists from the 70s and 80s who weren't mainstream or commercial successes. As a teen in the 80s I listened to real alternative industrial music that had no commercial appeal whatsoever but had international followings in major markets just enough to get them published but they were nowhere near the level of commercialism as MM and TR.
My point was about Trent inserting himself into this when he had nothing to do with either MM or ERW's relationship.
He should count his lucky stars that he's considered an original artist. Now he's just perpetually apologizing for his past. He's better off rejecting it entirely and joining Kirk Cameron's congregation and sail away with Jesus
