Why doesn't Janet Jackson have the streaming numbers her peers have?

Mariah Carey has 26.8 million Spotify monthly listeners. Madonna has 20.2 million Spotify monthly listeners. Whitney Houston has 19.8 million Spotify monthly listeners. Janet only has 5.2 million Spotify monthly listeners. She is less popular on Spotify than Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Nina Simone. Her music is really not connecting with the younger generation given how big of a star she was.

Maybe because she was total mediocrity and leeched off her brother's stardom.

Total mediocrity? Not even close. It's also false that she "leeched off" Michael's stardom seeing that she built and maintained a successful career independent of him for decades. The other Jackson's, not so much.

Janet's Spotify numbers may not be as large as the other artists mentioned, but it doesn't take away from the fact that she's a legend and major influence on many female artists who followed in her wake.
