Do you think he's a good actor?

Yeah, Tarantino gave him new life by exploiting just that quality of his in Jackie Brown ... he got a good actor at a cheap price, and give the guy's career a boost too. He is decent enough actor ... what is acting anyway - looking good on the camera while someone feeds you good lines on an interesting set with nice looking girls around? Cynical you say? ;-)

I liked him in Jackie Brown.

Yes I think he was a great actor. I know hes famous for Jackie Brown but I have seen a lot of his lesser known films.
I learned of his passing not long ago he will be missed

Yeah he was a good actor. I love how he had a quiet coolness about him. Most of the characters he portrayed had that plain spoken, straightforward quality about them. Like honest, down to earth old school guys who are rational, and accept reality for what it is.

I haven’t seen all of his movies, I intend to see more of them...but in the ones I’ve seen he really nails the understated, contemplative types. If there was a phrase in how I would describe him or the characters he played it would be; “quiet determination.”

That’s why he was so good at playing old school but sympathetic authority types; like bail bondsman Max Cherry in Jackie Brown (1997) or Detective McKnight in Mulholland Drive (2001).

He’s was like the calm, safe pair of hands in an increasingly hysterical world. Like the old cop before retirement trying to calmly solve a case in a world he no longer fits in.

So yeah, he was a good actor with rather good depth who unfortunately got overlooked for long stretches of his career.

He was an excellent actor.

He was good playing those stoic tough guys.
