should have been on top of the twitter trender at least for a while

instead he barely made it and never at the top. guy was a legend. instead he never even made it above paul rudd or vin deasel stories. i'm thinking twitter is full of losers.

i switched on bbc, itv and sky news expecting him to get at least briefly mentioned with clips from Superman, Goonies, LethalWeapon (arguably movies that have had just as much impact with the appropriate generation as any Spielberg/Lucas stuff).. but nothing

it appears the annoucement and his legacy in the industry etc has been consigned to movie sites and 'movie twitter'

reply

crazy. the guy made some classic twilight zones and gilligan's islands etc. no respect.

reply

Donner probably wasn't well known among general audiences. Sure, they know Superman and Lethal Weapons, but won't make the connection with his name.

reply

true he wasn't a speilberg or lucas as far as being a famous personality, but, like you said, superman and lw and others are huge and well known. maybe they would think he was part of the donner party massacre.

reply

i think most general/casual film goers who arent movie buffs might just think Spielberg directed Superman (and Goonies) and whoever did Die Hard was probably behind Lethal Weapon too.

ironically his death is probably educating quite a few ppl who had no idea there was a 'Richard Donner' guy who directed some of the biggest films of their childhoods

reply

Twitter is mostly losers who hate white men. There is no way Twitter would give a legend his proper due.

reply

i should have expected as much from them.

I haven't used Twitter in a long time now. I don't miss it. You are right, though. If he had done nothing else, I would hold Donner in very high regard because of what he managed to create in Superman the Movie, which is a film I really do love, it is so special to me. But he also made other great films and I loved to hear him talk about his films. I must have listened to the commentary with him and the late Tom Mankiewicz on Superman a dozen times, it was so much fun. Now they are both gone.

reply

superman is a milestone film.

You’re just figuring this out now? Haha. It’s probably more of a tribute to him that the cesspool known as Twitter didn’t give this great director much acknowledgment. They’d rather bitch about insignificant things that offended them that day.

R.I.P. Richard Donner.
