Terrible director

Nice to have a father who was once king. In her case the apple took a cruise far far away.

Her father had what 2 or 3 great movies? I think He is overrated.

reply

He is not overrated one great movie is way more than most directors have in there entire career, and this guy have way more than that Goodfather 1 and 2, Dracula, Apocalypse Now, Rumble Fish, Outsiders, The conversation

reply

Goodfather 1 and 2 were great movies.

reply

Just because her father was talented as a director ,does not make her one. My Father was a great plumber .Does not mean I can or will be.Not everything is genetic.

Can we talk? Sis is a wretched film maker. All her films are basically like perfume adverts. She doesn't know how handle a narrative, she just knows how to set up pretty, intriguing looking shots. Lost in Translation was just a bunch of cool little set pieces and scenery strung together with stilted dialogue.

Her films are about boring, self-important white women because that's what she is.

The Beguiled is a classic. Sofia is going to ruin it as per usual. She's a shit director with limited perspective and it shows throughout her movies. I hope she will be exposed as the charlatan she is.

I've only seen one of her films, Marie Antoinette. Pretty visuals, was BORED. TO. DEATH.

She has always been an untalented quack. She rides on that last name, but all her work has been pretty shit.

Is Sofia Coppola the most boring film-maker in the history of cinema?

No, that would be Joseph L. Mankiewicz and his magnum opus, Cleopatra.

reply

I agree. I hate this type of hipster film making she helped usher into the late 90s. The kinds of films with no character or depth.

Wes Anderson can be blamed too, but I think some of his movies, especially Grand Budapest, have more to offer than Coppola's or the other boring filmmakers he inspired.

Or can we blame Jim Jarmusch?

Lost In Translation is great.

Her first few films were iconic and ahead of their time in some ways (such as the modern music used in Marie Antoinette). Everything after that has been bland and forgettable. The Bling Ring is the most frustrating as it had so much potential but she chose to focus on the wrong characters. Somehow she keeps getting worse and worse over time.
