Why wasn't Verhoeven considered for the 50 Shades films?

I know 50 Shades of Grey Books and films are terrible, but it would have made sense for Verhoeven to at least be considered for the films. There would have been some legit S/M scenes worth watching and probably some camp value to the films.

Because they wanted a female director.

Bringing the Verhoeven touch to those films may well have dragged them out of insipidness.

I guess we will never know.

Funny thing, I also thought 50 shades could have been his kind of material when I watched them.

I've never seen 50 shades but I know they're chick flick movies.

Verhoeven is a G. He is very, as the feminists would call it, 'male gazey'.

Us guys would have appreciated a Verhoeven 50 Shades, the ladies not so much.

He would have been a fantastic director and probably could have made much better movies. Basic Instinct was huge in the early 90s and Showgirls was one of the biggest bombs in Hollywood history so I think he was too far removed from Hollywood to be seriously considered.
