Favorite movie he's done?

What's your favorite movie he's done and would you recommend it?

reply

All of 'em, in order from my favourite to least...

Gangs of New York - love everything about this movie
In the Name of the Father - likewise, but Day-Lewis is less impressive here and I prefer the epic scope of Gangs
Last of the Mohicans - solid action movie
There Will Be Blood - I felt like this one dragged a bit; killer performance, though, and the stuff with the preacher kid is dynamited gold!
The Crucible - I remember really liking it, but I don't really remember it...weird.
A Room with a View - A great period piece with a very unexpected performance by Day-Lewis.

Nine - this is the only bad one, in my opinion. It was vapid, weird, and totally superfluous given the VASTLY superior 8 1/2 from which this turd spawned. Sexy costumes on sexy girls...that's about it.

Honourable mention: Gandhi. I love the movie, but for the life of me I cannot remember Day-Lewis being in this. It's listed as his second picture, so he's probably only a bit player. I like the film a lot, but I can't really rank it in a Daniel Day-Lewis film list.

Brilliant actor, but I'm a bit disturbed by tales of his (narcissistic?) deep method acting. It's either exaggerated or unhealthy and selfish. I'm not arguing with the results, just the (literal and figurative) method to get there.

None. Bupkis. Not one. He’s not to my taste.

Last Of The Mohicans ... a movie that stands in a class by itself. I've not seen anything that captures the primal feeling of what the virgin American continent must have felt like. Day-Lewis was perfect in this, but also Michael Mann's directing was brilliant, as all the supporting cast and the writers were.

I suppose Lincoln was an important politically correct movie, but it bored the to sleep and we just up and left about 1/3 of the way in.
