What is his 'legacy' movie?

40 years from now, after he is dead and gone.

Looks like 'Christmas Vacation' (1989) to me.

As a Gen Xer it is a bit strange...the original Vacation (1983) did better at the box office. Caddyshack (1980)would have been the hands down choice, but the new generations don't seem to like it.

Christmas Vacation.

Although each time I watch it, Clark is even more of a dickhead.

reply

Beverly D'Angelos green Christmas dress did it for me.

reply

Definitely Fletch.

reply

That my fav of his... at his funniest.

reply

As an Xer Fletch of course. Caddyshack maybe,

For me, hands down the original Vacation. A close second is Fletch, though I don't think it has aged well.

reply

the original Vacation

That's my vote as well.

or maybe Foul Play

I love Caddy Shack but the Vacation Movies he is the main character. Rodney Dangerfield steals the show for me in Caddy Shack. I was born in 95 but wish I was alive in the 80s everything seemed so awesome and fun back then

reply

Yeah. Fun and partying were pretty much the order of the 1980's for USA teenagers. We were political dunces and liked it that way... beer, girls and partying were in commercials (Spuds McKenzie) movies (Fast Times) TV (MTV Spring Break!) and music (Van Halen)

The youth today seem much more focused, serious and much better informed about the world with strong political opinions then I was at that age.

Vote tally 3/6/23

Vacation (83) - 8
Fletch (85) - 4
Christmas Vacation (89) - 2
Funny Farm (88) - 2

Don't think he'll be remembered for his films. My guess is people will tune into Community in 40 years and remember him for that show.
