What's his best film?

I think it's "Ed Wood" (1994). It's the one time in his life when he used a true story and stuck to it accurately, but the story was so strange that "EW" ended up being one of his weirdest films. Superbly acted, darkly funny, and oddly involving.

Much better than any of his recent work.

I haven't seen "Ed Wood" yet, although I've been told it's great. For me it's "Big Fish." I thought it was a really beautiful story about a man who chose to see the world in a magical way and created his own truth. I've seen different interpretations of it, but in my opinion it's about the art of storytelling and how, through our stories, we become immortalized.

"Ed Wood" is also about storytelling. It's also the story of a storyteller who chooses to create his own truth through the art of film... so BADLY that he won a perverse sort of fame as the worst filmmaker of all time! It's a fascinating subject and Burton doesn't need to exaggerate, Wood's interests and obsessions, hit movtivations and methods, his friends and helpers, are all worthy of close examination, and as it turns out, the truth was more eccentric, strange, and darkly funny than anything Burton's been able to imagine. (To date.)

Do check it out.

Oooh, that does sound good. I think I'll have to move "Ed Wood" up on my to-watch list!

I agree with you.

And ''Big Fish'' could be appreciated by anyone. Even if they are not fans of Burton.

reply

i agree. by far his best out of very few good ones.

Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands are great. I think I prefer Edward more because it is a more personal Story of Burton. I hope he finds back to his 90s prime...
