Baldwin interview: 'I didnt pull the trigger'

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10262871/Alec-Baldwin-sit-intense-revealing-prime-time-interview-Rust-shooting.html

ABC's George Stephanopoulos held an 'intense' interview with Alec Baldwin about the deadly shooting on Rust set

In it, he revealed that he never pulled the trigger on the gun that shot and killed Halyna Hutchins, but said it went off inexplicably after he picked it up

'The trigger wasn't pulled, I didn't pull the trigger,' he said. 'I would never point a gun at anyone at point a trigger at them, never'

It's not yet known why the weapon was loaded with a real bullet

'Someone put a live bullet in the gun - a bullet that wasn't even supposed to be on the property,' Baldwin said

Baldwin told the host that the shooting was 'the worst thing that ever happened to me'

Stephanopoulos said the actor was 'devastated' but 'forthcoming'

Baldwin went into detail about the day he accidentally shot dead the film's cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza

It comes as Baldwin and the Rust production face multiple lawsuits from crew members who described a lack of safety at the New Mexico film set

Investigators continue to probe the accident and now believe a homemade bullet may have made its way on set and into Baldwin's pistol

It sounds like BS lawyer spin to me. However, I did once own an early 1900s Harrington and Richardson .32 caliber revolver that was worn so badly the hammer, if cocked, would spontaneously trip even if you hadn't touched the trigger. A gunsmith told me it wasn't worth the money to fix, so I rendered it unable to be loaded and it's now a harmless paper weight. The thing about a gun going off without having the trigger pulled, though, is that it has to be cocked first. So why did Baldwin cock the gun?

reply

The assistant director who is "backing up Alec Baldwin's claim" that he never pulled the trigger is Dave Hall. He is the one who authorities said took the gun from armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed and passed it on to Baldwin, without thoroughly inspecting it. Despite what his lawyer has said to the press, Hall may be the person most likely to be prosecuted, along with Reed. So I don't believe him or Baldwin.

'Guns don't just go off': Sheriff and gun expert cast doubt on Alec Baldwin's claim he did NOT pull the trigger on set of 'Rust' - but attorney of movie's AD backs the star up

*Bryan W. Carpenter, a weapons armorer, said that this sort of event happening without Baldwin pulling the trigger is highly unlikely

*'Once you cock the hammer back on one of those old west guns, it doesn't take a lot to set that trigger off,' he said
His comments come after Santa Fe Sheriff Adam Mendoza said that 'guns don't just go off'

*Meanwhile, Seth Kenney - the owner of the prop arsenal that provided the film with ammo - said that they only provided 50 dummy rounds and blanks to Rust

*He claimed the bullet that killed Hutchins doesn't match the rounds that his company, PDQ, sent to the film

Baldwin is right. The gun pulled itself and pointed at the camera lady just like the SUV drove itself into the crowded parade. Ban all guns and SUV's!! It's the only logical sense herp derp.

Alec Baldwin has admitted his acting career may be over after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust.

"It could be," the 63-year-old actor said in an interview to George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, adding that he did not care.

Mr Baldwin also said he "didn't pull the trigger" of the gun during the incident on 21 October in New Mexico.

"Someone put a live bullet in a gun" he said. "I know it's not me".

Mr Baldwin is best-known for his performances in films like Glengarry Glen Ross and The Hunt For Red October, as well as his impersonation of Donald Trump on US sketch show Saturday Night Live.

"I don't know what happened on that set. I don't know how that bullet arrived in that gun. I don't know," Mr Baldwin said.

"But I'm all for doing anything that will take us to a place where this is less likely to happen again."

The actor said that during the rehearsal on 21 October Hutchins was directing his every move.

"She's guiding me through how she wants me to hold the gun for this angle.

"I'm holding the gun where she told me to hold it, which ended up being aimed right below her armpit."

To get the shot, the actor said he needed to cock the gun - but not fire it.

"The trigger wasn't pulled. I didn't pull the trigger.

"I cock the gun. I go, 'Can you see that? Can you see that? Can you see that?'

"And then I let go of the hammer of the gun, and the gun goes off," Mr Baldwin said.

The interview marks the first time Mr Baldwin has spoken about the incident on camera, except for a brief interview he gave to TMZ in October, in a bid to stop the paparazzi from following him and his family

Alec Baldwin says he DOESN'T feel guilty about accidentally shooting cinematographer dead and claims someone else is responsible for tragedy: Star also blasts George Clooney for making dig at his gun safety habits

Halyna Hutchins, a 42-year-old cinematographer, was shot and killed on the set of Baldwin's Western film Rust on October 21

The film's director Joel Souza was standing behind Hutchins while the scene was being rehearsed and he was shot in the shoulder

Court records indicated that an assistant director, Dave Halls, handed Baldwin a loaded weapon and told him it was safe to use

Baldwin has insisted that he did not pull the trigger and that the antique gun misfired - something Halls has corroborated

Baldwin said he does not feel guilty because someone else was responsible for the tragedy

The Oscar-nominated actor said that it did not occur to him that the gun could have contained live ammunition until about 45 minutes after the shooting

He thought Hutchins had fainted or had a heart attack, and both he and she believed the gun being used was empty

Baldwin hit back at critics saying he should never have pointed the gun at people, insisting that he was working with Hutchins

He said that George Clooney's remarks blasting his gun safety habits as unhelpful

Baldwin said he no longer cares about his career, says it might be over - but then promptly announced plans to appear in another film shooting from January

I kinda had sympathy for Alex before he made this claim, but it sounds like fanciful ass covering rather than being transparent about the incident.
