What exactly happened to her in the early '70s that stalled her career? I know she had an accident but wasn't sure what caused it.

It was when she met Roger that her career picked up. Roger took over managing her career. When Roger became sick with MG Ann-Margret put her career on hold to take care him. I believe they have been married close to 50 years now.
