Has Sly ever cast himself in a NON-macho role?
I'm sure maybe 5% of the time he has.
But the rest, macho roles.
Get over yourself, Sly.

He portrays macho yet sensitive type guys pretty frequently. Stallone is one of the world’s great movie stars.
He’s also pretty nice during interviews, he’s not full of himself.
Stallone seems like a gent.
Wasn't he something of a diva back in his day? Don't get me wrong, I love Sly as much as the next guy but if reports are to believed, Stallone was quite an egotist and hothead during his prime years (probably mellowed out a lot over the years, I presume).
shareI’d heard similar chatter about him decades ago. If true he seems to have mellowed with age
shareCorrect.
shareRhinestone but I've never seen it. All I know is that he sings in it with Dolly Parton.
shareOh my lord... my parents took us to see that when we were kids. They were huge fans but that movie and his singing was abysmal. They did not know it was a comedy and he would be singing and were so angry for wasting money on it, lol.
shareThat's a perfect example.
shareHe should play a transvestite
shareShade
sharehas hanks ever played a non nice guy?
i don't even think stallone would say he's a great actor, he's good at what he does. he plays to his strengths.
i like stallone, but he's no pacino.
Once actors craft a "Macho" image of being dominant and successful, they practically never backpedal and take a role where they look like a desperate wimp in any way, even if they play a villain.
Like, could you imagine George Clooney taking on a role as a dork who can't get laid to save his life?
That's sort of what makes Sly and Tom Cruise outliers. Cruise took that role in TROPIC THUNDER where he's a dorky balding TV exec. Stallong did a similar move in COPLAND as a wimpy sheriff who looks the other way, but he did undergo an arc where he finds his strength at the end. I haven't seen RHINESTONE or STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT but I think he was a little more "everyman" in those movies with a little more of his shy, sensitive side out that we saw in the first ROCKY movie. Whether or not you consider that macho is up to you. I think it depends on where his character lands at the end of the movie and I haven't really seen him end up as a cowardly follower at any point. Even his villainous role in DEATH RACE 2000 was played for ultimate machismo.
The thing is clooney is 1. a good looking guy who unless you did some makeup job on him, will never look like a loser who can't get laid and 2. he's an awful actor whos got by on his looks.
Clooney isn't a serious actor, so therefore has his limitations. Stallone is a decent actor who knows what the public want from him and he delivers.
Real actors are different, it's like kathy bates, in one film she's a psycho fan who keeps a writer imprisoned and tries to cripple him! the next shes playing a charming rich molly brown next to leo dicaprio on the titanic... and you believe it... she's a real actress.
It would be interesting to see stallone doing something different. who knows...
Considering he's almost 80 years old he kinda has to branch out into something different as nobody is going to be buying a full geriatric tough guy. It's kinda pushing it as it is and it's a miracle that he's been able to do it this late into his career. It's crazy to think that he's the same age now that Charles Bronson was when he filmed his final role.
shareThe thing is, and maybe i'm wrong... but i get the feeling that stallone simply doesn't care that much. at this point rocky movies, especially the early ones are a part of american culture, he's done some other half decent stuff, rambo did well.. he's done a lot of acting, even some directing, he's rich and people like and respect him...
Does he really care or have the need to be seen as marlon brando or pacino level actor? or even a diverse actor you know what i mean?
Wait, are you talking about Will Smith ?
shareStop or My Mom Will Shoot. Estelle was the macho geezer
shareHe writes so many macho roles for himself because he feels he's a macho guy in real life.
For a time back in the day. I think he actually believed he could box!
(Just like how Jason Statham actually believes he knows martial arts--beyond choreographed, MOVIE martial arts)
