Did he already lost his touch?

I guess when you are the Spielberg nobody around you would give you meaningful inputs. Maybe all his crews sucked up to him or maybe he fired everyone not sucking up to him.

I imagine shooting with Spielberg goes like this...

"OH LOOK! Steven push this button! This must be it! The best button to push in entire cinema history! Every aspiring young directors should push this button too!"

"THE GOD Steven Himself ask me to angle my camera a little to the left. Wow! It's obviously THE MOST BEAUTIFUL camera angle everrr! This camera angle itself would singlehandedly win Oscars!"

"This scene looks too fuckin' long. But Steven said it's okay, so it must be the most optimal way of doing movies. He's THE BEST! Who am I to compare to Him. Forgive me LORD Steven for I have sinned."

He never had it.

He lost touch around the mid 00s, same with Marty

reply

Who is Marty?

reply

Scorsese

reply

Boardwalk Empire was excellent.

Lost his touch ? Did you see Lincoln and Bridge of Spies. How many good films like those are made in recent times. They are very rare these days.

reply

Nah, he's still got it.

reply

I was never a fan, too much jew love in his films. I get it but cool it with the nepotism.

I'm not sure if all these filmmakers lost "the touch" or if the evolving technology of the business just murdered the magic. With the computers and the high tech cameras and everything else, you can pretty much do anything. And it's not hard. You used to have to work really hard to create illusions on camera. These sorts of hurdles foster a different sort of creative drive, and of course, limits more outlandish things that don't benefit the story.
