...Or chalked it up to attention whoring by Rapp and fantasies of a young gaiboi?... Kinda of a big mistake wrapping coming out with pederasty actions that he can't even remember doing to his boozing

I have trouble understanding how parents can let their child go alone to an adult party & leave him alone with him, but whatevs...

Brett Ratner was accused and like Negan he Shut that Shit Down with an instant denial and haven't heard anything in the media since
Louis CK is probably hoping some terrorist runs down people in a truck or some mass shooting hours after he releases whatever excuse/apology & "I'm seeking treatment" statement

I think denying it would be much worse. I kind of respect him for admitting that it could be true.. if he had denied it, people would still believe it happened, but would see him as a liar. At least he had the guts to own up to his mistakes.

I think people objected to him using it as an opportunity to 'come out', but I think he had to because it became kind of obvious when he admitted he may have hit on a male!

Deny till you die!

Public apologies never work, unless "maybe" when you're serving time and are trying to get back to work. When you apologise in the face of an accusation, it's just fanning the flames...

Denials create doubt, doubt is your only friend against accusations... It reduces scandal to controversey, or rumour...

Anyway, who is a public apology supposed to be for anyway? The TV show fans? Or the mob that had accused him? The reality is the public apology is a form of punishment, it's a public shaming and has little to do with redressing any actual crimes.

It's a facinating situation... At the moment these apologies seem more like attrition than atonement...

Wonder if Spacey now regrets his tweet? He probably figured if he denied it in a 'aw hell no! You are so getting sued motherfucker!!!' then ok he might dampen the flames initially and maybe even deterred others from coming forward, but then hed obviously know thered be others who would come forward and speak out in this Weinstein #metoo climate.. so maybe he figured by admitting it (in not so many words) and then coming out itd perhaps lessen the damage .. but what happened is everyone had no sympathy as star trek guy was 14 years old and the gay community was outraged hed tied it in with being gay as if to say 'hey whatup this is just how us gay guys roll right? I mean everyone knows that right' (but as Fairy_snuff states he had to say he was gay in order to explain the thing)

really it was checkmate either way (admit it everyone is outraged others come forward. Deny it then others come forward )

Wrong. While it was dumb of Spacey to mix "coming out as a gay man" with admitting to drinking too much in '86
and "not remembering", had he denied it, it would've backfired in the face of the subsequent men who have now
come out against Spacey. He had two choices:

To admit the "possibility" (due to alcohol) and apologize to Rapp.
To flatly deny it.

To be painted a LIAR and a molester....

He chose wisely....accept for coming out in the same sentence. Pretty lame.

Can you think of any who have denied accusations and had their careers torpedoed so quickly?

Denials make news publications think twice about publishing editorials and such on the subject, as they get afraid of libel... By apologising he gave his accusers a megaphone...

It's not like there is any actual evidence... Just accusations...

these other guys who are denying are probably guilty as hell but after having seen what happened to Spacey are like 'What?! no I didn't do any of that! you lying! all lies!! wheres the proof!?' and threat of suing in the hopes that its enough to deter others from coming forward and they can weather the storm until this #metoo thing loses some of its heat and people sort of lose interest in it all (although I don't see how that can happen now as if theres any more big names have been up to no good and theres enough heat on them like happened with spacey its not like the media will be like 'oh its so last week' if its someone of note.. I imagine some are being investigated right now and are on the list for a big reveal and they probably fighting it with hundreds of thousands on legal stuff trying to prevent it coming out as they know when its out they finished. )

Disagree. Spacey still has some element of taking the high road. And certain people get off on "forgiving", at
least after time. He could never sue for libel because he knows there are more and more men salivating to
nail him. He may get charged with rape. This isn't over yet.

It was a case of the accused playing victim, Spacey was trying to make it seem like he was part of an oppressed class pretty much saying "I did this thing because of this thing I have" problem is no one gives a damn if he's gay, he chose not to come out years before that was his choose, being gay wasn't a issue to anybody other than to him, but after Anthony Rapp makes his allegations Spacey felt a need to come out which was a bad PR move.

I agree, unless the proof is overwhelming - because then not only are you blamed for the misdeed but are also then labeled a liar. The problem with Spacey is... way more dudes came out later on pointing a finger at him. From what I gather, there's still no real proof in video format, for example - but he's got quite a few accusers.

He should've denied it. In fact, that would probably have been the more accurate response. Eye witness testimony is considered the most unreliable because of peoples tendency towards confirmation bias. And with drinking involved over 30 years ago, its more than likely that it didn't go down the way Rapp recalls it did. But by Spacey giving Rapp the benefit of the doubt that it did happen the way he says it did, it opened the floodgates for more accusations.

May have been more accusations days after Rapp's accusation due to the Weinstein effect we don't know but Spacey did make a fatal error in coming out as gay in order to distract from the accusation.

There's been rumors about Spacey over the years that were never made public and no one did anything about it cause he would shoot down your career and unable to prove anything. Since Harvey Weinstein the tide is turning.

All his statement did was confirm it, it was pretty clear it was a diversionary tactic, very much saying "Don't look at that look at this", people could care less if he was gay, he chose not to be open about it that was his choice, it's not if he was a heartthrob he's a character actor, so it wasn't a issue to anybody other than to him it would seem.

At first you think Rapp's allocation was a misunderstanding since he was only 14 years old at the time but then Spacey felt a need to come out which was a bad move and everyone could see it for what it is, if you read his statement again it was clear more was going to come out as we always see in these stories.
