Is Ron Howard overrated as a filmmaker?

https://www.datalounge.com/thread/27345127-yes!-yes!-the-reviews-for-netflix%E2%80%99s-hillbilly-elegy-are-as-awful-as-you%E2%80%99d-hoped-they-be!

Opie is a horrible director; he's tolerable with kitsch like Splash and Cocoon, but ruins anything serious. He de-gayed A Beautiful Mind, thus making it far simpler and less layered than it ought to have been. He's responsible for garbage like The Da Vinci Code and Rush, among many others. He is middlebrow with a vengeance.

He's hit and miss.

In a word, yes. He's made some enjoyable movies, but he's only good for popcorn movies. Then again, look at his acting career. I don't think he's been exposed to much depth.
