Javier Bardem defends Woody Allen.

I used to respect Javier Bardem, but he keeps defending Allen:

In 2018 he said:

"Public accusations are very dangerous. If some day there is a trial and it’s proven to be true, I would change my opinion, but at this moment, nothing has changed. If there was evidence that Woody Allen was guilty, then yes, I would have stopped working with him, but I have doubts. I am very shocked by this sudden treatment. Judgments in the states of New York and Connecticut found him innocent.”

In 2021 he said:

"Pointing fingers at someone is very dangerous if it hasn't been legally proven. Beyond that, it's just gossip. I try to go where logic dictates, which is: Let's follow the rules that exist to establish whether someone is guilty or innocent. If the case re-opens and he is proven to be guilty, I will be the first to say, 'What a horrible thing.' But so far, I haven't seen that."

Unless the court proves Allen is guilty? Why weren't the words of the victim enough?

"Why weren't the words of the victim enough?"

Because false accusations exist and a police investigation found that Dylan Farrow had been coached or influenced by Mia. Also, child abusers don't simply do it once and never again. It's a pattern of behaviour featuring abuse that's compulsively repeated. This is the only allegation of its type that Allen has faced, and it simply doesn't ring true to me. It's like the allegation against Bob Dylan - an accusation of one-time abuse that was totally out of character and was quickly found to be fabricated.

There's quite a lot of research available about how false memories are created, and how they can even be implanted. It would be fairly simple for the parent of a seven-year-old to do such a thing.

Barden sounds rational and fair-minded, unlike Allen's accusers. He's gone up in my estimation.

You think an unproven allegation is enough? What do you think courtrooms are for?

reply

For most actors, it's enough. Almost all actors are against him, even male actors like Timothee Chalamet, Colin Firth, and Michael Caine. Amazon has also denounced him.

reply

Then those actors are either idiots or just too sh*t scared not to condemn him, for the sake of their brand. Can't be seen to go against the groupthink. An allegation is simply that, an allegation. And some people lie. That's why we have a legal system.

reply

Oh no, not Chalamet! Allen must be shitting himself.

That's perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever read here. At first I thought you were being sarcastic.

reply

It's enough for most actors and Amazon. Do you know how many actors are against him?

reply

I'll leave it to the courts, not Timothy Chalamet.

reply

Not just Chalamet, many many actors are against him!

Dude, actors are far from the arbiters of justice in the country. And I live in Hollywood. Most actors have never expressed an opinion on Woody Allen's guilt or innocence anyway.
