Animal House or The Blues Brothers?
Which comedy do you like better?

shareTo-ga! To-ga! To-ga!
Definitely Animal House. Both are great, though.
Animal House
shareAnimal House is much better written, with a bigger cast..more of a true classic.
The Blues Brothers is from a so-so script significantly written by Dan Ackroyd, who wasn't the writing talent of the guys who wrote Animal House.
And though both Animal House and The Blues Brothers were directed by John Landis, the first was made under tough studio scrutiny on budget and quality control, whereas on the second, Landis went out of control on budget and schedule -- and it shows.
Still The Blues Brothers has great soul singers, great car chases, big action and a funny central duo --its more than good enough.
But not as good as Animal House.
I'll say, for my part, the car chase crap in The Blues Brothers pretty much sucks. At least those in the last 15-20 minutes of the movie. I'm ok with absurdity but I have limits. The idea of barraging the audience with that level of excessive nonsense is a step above playing a siren for the last 15 minutes of the film but not a big step. I guess in the age where repeated home viewings of a film weren't a consideration it wasn't as bad but I can tell you that I've turned the movie off after the concert hall scene just about every time in the last 20 years.
shareBOTH CLASSICS...BOTH AMAZING FILMS...I PREFER BLUES BROTHERS MYSELF THOUGH.
shareBlues Brothers. No Doubt. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdbrIrFxas0
shareLooks about even counting the votes, I'm surprised.
Animal house is too juvenile to stand the test of time imo.
Blues brothers is a classic in all sorts of ways.
The BB discussion page on this site isnt full of threads titled "Whats so good? i dont get it" like the AH one is.
Probably "Animal House".
I've been in a huge minority all my life, I never understood the fascination of John Belushi.
He just seems (to me) 'meh.
Just another forgettable figure who died to young. You forget about him...until a few years later someone asked you about him.
I've been watching SNL on Peacock from 1975- (I'm at 1978) and he's just 'meh.
