General Anesthesia

I had surgery today! One of those lovely kinds where you get put to sleep.

1. Have you ever been put to sleep?
2. Do you like it?

reply

YUP....GALLBLADDER OUT RECENTLY...I DID NOT LIKE IT.

HOPE EVEYTHING WENT WELL AND YOU ARE FINE.🫂

reply

Thank you! It went well. I am doing okay right now and am waiting on some results. 🫤 Glad the surgery is over!

Had to have my gallbladder out a little over a year ago. It wasn't fun but I'm glad I can eat food again.

reply

1 yes
2 not really

Ear surgery and colonoscopy most recent

Signed, million man.

reply

It's a weird feeling that's for sure. One moment you're on the operating table the next you're waking up in a different room, or at least that's how my experiences at the hospital have been. Kinda freaky.

reply

Yeah I put off my colonoscopy for like 10 years and the missus was having a conniption...

"Count backwards from 10" ok ten nine OUT.

Yes

2. Do you like it?
Wouldn't say I liked it per-say but I wouldn't want to be conscious when a surgeon slices me open

Last surgery I had was having my appendix removed

reply

The procedure went smoothly, thanks. 🙂

I guess I'm like you, I don't like having to be put to sleep but I also wouldn't want to be conscious during surgery. I think I just let the risks of it get in my head and make me nervous although I've never had a problem with it.

reply

When I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was in the U.S Navy out at sea, I was put under and worked on by student dentist's. This was back in 1992. I have not had any surgery or been to the Doctor since then and at almost 59, I'm in pretty good shape all around

reply

If it weren't for the fact that the issues that led to my 2 surgeries caused quality of life-altering symptoms I would not have gone to the doctor either. I avoid them at all costs but had no choice in these cases. 🫤

reply

!.Yes
2.No, I was really young and was crying when they put me to sleep with a needle lol.....i hate needles

reply

I'm not a fan of needles either and I am sure they are especially scary to a child. I was not put to sleep for the first time until I was 50.

I've learned that sometimes patients can get a bit loony while under anesthesia. I once had to have surgery for a double hernia in my groin. In the midst of it, I came out and felt the surgeon poking around inside of me and it hurt like hell but I started laughing. I remember a nurse saying almost incredulously, "Doctor, your patient is laughing!" Then I went back under.

reply

I've heard about people waking up during surgery. Thank goodness that has not happened to me!!

reply

1. Many times.
2. It’s one of my favourite feelings.

reply

I have a good friend who loves being put under which is one of the reasons I started this thread. I know of people who actually enjoy it. Now I know two people. 😁

reply

Well my first thought is I hope you're ok - hope the procedure was successful

1. Many times

2. Not really - but it doesn't bother me.

Only one bad experience. Was put down along with a paralytic. I became conscious while the paralytic was still in affect. This was singularly the worst feeling I've ever had.

Otherwise, in and out like a light - piece of cake.

reply

The procedure went smoothly and I'm doing okay. Thank you for asking! ♥️

I don't think I've ever been given a paralytic but if I was, it had worn off by the time I woke up. That does sound like a horrible feeling.

reply

All right! Outstanding - good for you!

Yeah, it makes you think of Christopher Reeve as an example.

I was in that condition for what seemed like an eternity, when in fact it was probably only a couple of hours.

Can you imagine being like that 24/7?

Have no idea how anyone could live like that. You'd have to have an incredibly strong will to survive.

Anyway - congrats on your success.

reply

Thank you!

And even for a couple of hours that sounds terrible. It's awful to think that some people have to live like that all the time.

reply

Yes, CHristopher Reeve is just a well known example.

I believe millions live in total paralysis.

Like you, one values life - happy to be here - enjoying every moment.

Must say though, if totally paralyzed - not sure I'd want to be here. It's the most tortuous feeling in the world.

Anyway, this is enough drab conversation for today, hahahahaha

Lets go back to living it up!
