What do you do to relax?

What do you do to relax? Besides anything medicinal that is. I suck at relaxing.

Books are nice.

So is music.

reply

Too keyed up to read a book but I might could throw them at something. Or shelve them on a bookshelf in a beach condo bathroom.

reply

Or place them on the ground to help you get over a curb.

reply

😂🤣😂🤣 Oh PB. I don't know how your brain comes up with these things but I'm glad it does.

reply

Classical music or New Age music

New Age broadly defined here to include various Electronic Music styles, best way to explain it is by linking to this site where I have made many purchases

Thank you ♥️

Parkerbot has already mentioned books and music. Apart from that, to walk in the forest, watching ⚽️ with friends, playing games at home with the family. To watch movies, to go from time to time to the cinema. I like to go to the town on Fridays after work to buy something, maybe not very wealthy but tasty, to eat as a kind of reward and "weekend celebration ".

reply

All of those sound very nice and many are things that I enjoy, too. Th🔥nks ♥️

My pleasure F🔥urlemons.

Go on holiday 🏖️

reply

When the possibility for vacation arises getting away can be very nice. I guess I'm trying to figure out if there's anything else that I'm not already doing to help in moments of high anxiety.

reply

I have a few movies and series, comedy shows and YT videos that have single scenes in them, mostly just a few seconds long, at best a minute or two, that I can never get enough of, I can watch them 100 times in a row in a loop and get back to them the next day to watch them another 100 times.
Won't help you if I told you which scenes, because without the whole context of the movie or series around it the scenes by themselves are mostly not all that impressive, but if you know the context, for me there's nothing better than spend a half hour or so watching the very same scene over and over.

Okok, I know you want at least an example, so here we go.
It's a dad joke / don't laugh challenge where there is the probably shortest dad joke ever in it and I love it.

The long version with a bit more context around the scene is here

I have some YouTube videos I like, too. My problem is if the anxiety gets high enough it's hard for me to concentrate.

reply

That's the whole point of watching the same few seconds over and over, there's no need to concentrate.
Light weight feel good romances like Hallmark produces them are pretty good for that as well.
Have you seen https://moviechat.org/tt17506016/Love-Classified ?
There's even one of those short scenes in it that I can watch 100 times in a loop.

reply

I have not seen that movie. I agree though that certain YouTube clips can be very enjoyable to watch.

Light a cozy fire and watch a few episodes of a good show with my little dog.

Walking in the woods to a good fishing hole, a few buddies and some beers.

Sit in my garage late at night listening to music or the owls and coyotes (again, with my dog.)

reply

I like your mention of listening to the owls. When the weather is warmer I enjoy sitting on my screened-in porch and listening to the night sounds which include owls. It's too cold to do that here right now or I would absolutely do it. And having a sweet animal nearby helps too. I like to cuddle with my cat Frances, and one of the nice things about cats is their purring. Just feeling the purrs can be relaxing. 🙂

reply

I’d really like a cat but my daughter is allergic. The purring and cuddling are tops, followed closely by mouse control.

reply

Spending time with a pet is always relaxing. I used to take my dogs on long walks. But my last dog died over a year ago, so now I walk myself! It is still relaxing.

reply

So sorry about your dog. My girl is 5 now and I don’t like to think about the inevitable. Maybe some day when you’re ready you could get a new best friend👍

reply

That is the only drawback with dogs. They don’t live long enough! I have often thought about getting a dog from a shelter. They are usually the ones who need the most love.

reply

My dog is a shelter dog. It’s disgusting the way heartless breeders and unbalanced owners treat animals. This girl had it so bad she immediately latched onto us and our home, now she thinks she owns the joint!

She’s small but very alert and always ready to loudly announce any odd noises which is good.

reply

It sickens me to think of the ways people abandon their pets when they move or the dog is no longer a cute puppy and becomes an inconvenience.

I have heard of people leaving their dogs when they moved. But they leave them inside the house with no food or water. How cruel can you be? People like that deserve to be locked in a room under the same conditions.

Your dog “owns the joint”. Is she part feline? My two cats think they own my bed. They take over and I find myself hanging off the side😁

reply

I have an 11 year old dependent feral cat that I have been taking care of since she was a kitten that I found in my garage. I trapped her and had her fixed and at that point I should have tried to tame her but I didn't, so even though she knows I take care of her, she won't let anyone touch her.

I want to downsize next year and what to do with her will be a problem. I won't be able to move into a condo and take her with me and my only option might be to buy another house where I can have an outdoor shelter built for her, but I'm just not sure how well she will adapt to that.

reply

Take a long warm shower 🚿

reply

Great suggestion! This is one of the few things that can provide comfort if I'm really keyed up. I think because it doesn't require a lot of thought or concentration and you can just stand there and be and enjoy the warmth.

reply

I listen to ASMR. A lot of ASMR.

👍🏼 Thanks!
