For Those Who Don't Like American Football

What are one or two things that you would change?

The Super Bowl is Sunday.

Here's a highlight reel for Saquan Barkley, Running Back for Philadelphia

I would change the game to Noon instead of kickoff at 5:30PM

reply

Reduce the undertime, the breaks, make the game's flow smoother.

reply

I don't know that term "undertime." Please explain. I'm guessing it is a distinction from "overtime," in which case American football calls that "regulation time" 60 minutes. A game takes 3 hours, sure, I would prefer fewer commercials, but I like to watch for free.
.

reply

I mean less breaks. More action. The game stops every 10-15 seconds. That's why some footballers are fat. They get a rest and instructions every once in a while. You don't need to be athletic and have much stamina to play football.

reply

So true. When there's action it can be quite interesting, but there's just no flow on the game.

reply

I wrestled in high school. The coach used to tell us that a 6 minute match was equal to playing an entire football game when it came to energy expended and stamina. Yeah, it was strenuous.

reply

There are “fat” guys because football is highly specialized, and their job is either block, or not be blocked.

However your comment that you don’t have to be athletic, or have stamina, is just really ignorant.

reply

They just need to have muscles, be stout and muscular to block or avoid the opponent's block. No need to run for miles. They run a few feet and then they get a rest. Basketball players, soccer and hokey players can cross several miles in just one game.

reply

They need to do all that and have the conditioning to do it for a full game. Football is a game of inches after, and if they get tired and they are getting pushed back, they are going to lose. This kind of stuff decides games.

What you are missing in a that all of the action in football is max effort. There is very little room to not
go all out, because the sport allows other players to light you up. The allow sports allow for the players to get rest while the clock is still running. In soccer and basketball there is a lot of half speed jogging back and forth, and standing around. Which is fine, they are endurance sports, but you don’t often see that in a sport where someone is looking to knock you to the ground.

reply

I couldn’t care less about the majority of sports including American football, but it doesn’t affect me so I wouldn’t change anything.

reply

I don't know all the rules. I have tried to watch a couple of games, but because of all these breaks I have never seen a match until the end.

reply

I think the number of commercial breaks is one of the biggest problems with trying to grow interest in the game in places like Europe. Americans are used to the ads, and it still seems like too much to us.

Here are 2024 highlights for Xavier Worthy, Kansas City Wide Receiver

Dude's got wheels.

reply

Speed up the game: Get rid of the two minute "warning." Make the goal posts narrower. Fewer injury timeouts--just cart them off the field and get on with the game.

reply

That’s not going to happen. We are in the player safety era since the nfl was sued by the former players.

reply

Well the name is sort of a lie

reply

No halftime show and less breaks/time-outs.

reply

Half time shows aren’t a regular thing, it’s done during the Super Bowl, and maybe an occasional nationally televised game. But fans and players hate them. Because they don’t just perform during halftime, they extend halftime to fit it in, making the game even longer for fans, and messing up the flow for players.

reply

Make it coed, and everyone with model looks in swimwear on a beach. Also international players with sexy foreigners and cute accents.

That I would watch.
