Tomorrow is Squirrel Appreciation Day

Usually there is someone on here who reminds everybody about squirrel-related holidays, so I thought I would beat him or her to the punch. I checked online and January 21 is Squirrel Appreciation Day, so I will make the first post the day before. I know there is a lot of miserable weather out there, but on Tuesday let's get outside and appreciate squirrels!

And just so anybody out there doesn't feel excluded, it's also National Hyaluronic Acid Day, National Hugging Day, and National Granola Bar Day.

I plan to hug a squirrel, give them a granola bar and tell them their skins looks fabulous.

I don't like squirrels. They need to get out of the suburbs and go back to the forest.

Squirrels are nothing more than fuzzy tailed tree rats and they can be vicious too.

stevewyzard is the one.

I know in certain instances they can be pests, but I love squirrels. I follow Little Thumbelina (aka Pink Lightning) on Instagram

It's 7 degrees here and I just looked out of my kitchen window and several squirrels are running around in the snow, apparently unfazed by the temperature.

Excuse me, but you stole my thunder!

I've been a part of MovieChat from the beginning, and if you were to check the "MovieChat Founding Charter", you will find that I have been designated as "Overseer of all Rodent-Related Celebrations". I had been planning to open the festivities first thing this morning, only to find that I have been pre-empted! And while I whole-heartedly endorse and approve of the Appreciation of Squirrels, we also do have some order and structure around here (not that I'm entitled). And just what is "hyaluronic acid" anyway?

That being said, there is some Squirrel News that needs to be reported. There have been pictures online of a dubious "Rainbow Squirrel of India" about the reality of which I am hugely skeptical. Sure they look cute, but I highly doubt the worldwide squirrel gene pool would allow for vivid red, yellow, and blue fur to grow naturally. That, and the fact that it's extremely easy to alter the color of photographs on one's computer, have convinced me that this is "fake squirrel news".

Now let's get outside and appreciate real, live, naturally-colored Squirrels!

I hate those fuckers. They chew holes right through the wood siding of my 100 year old garage. They make a mess of any tree that they build a next in. And they will get to your bird feeder no matter what precautions you take.
