Good lists by all of you.
I would add Tom Petty. What a goddamn loss!
Drinking can be bad, I admit it but fuck hard drugs. Leave those pills alone, don’t do it. have a few cocktails instead. Much safer.
Frank Zappa - no secret I'm a big fan, but he was still evolving musically, and becoming a bigger social and political voice.
Jimi Hendrix - no telling what effect he would have had on music. He was slated to have a meeting with Gil Evans about a collaboration weeks after his death.
Donny Hathaway - wasn't even near his peak.
Eyedea (Michael Larsen) - my personal goat freestyler was still branching out musically.
D. Boon of the Minutemen - again a major influential force cut short after releasing a revolutionary album.
Honorable mention: Gram Parsons
Kurt Cobain
Janis Joplin
Jim Morrison
Kurt cobain
Jimmy hendrix
Brad knowly (sublime singer)
MCA (Beastie boys)
So hard to narrow it down to 5...I can't do it:
1) Buddy Holly
2) Jimi Hendrix
3) Duane Allman
4) Jim Croce/Murray Muehleisen
5) Elvis Presley
6) Karen Carpenter
7) John Denver
8) Michael Hedges
9) Philippé "Soul Walker" Wynne (lead singer of The Spinners)
10) Kurt Cobain
ok, then I'd add
Jimi Hendrix
Karen Carpenter
Sandy Denny
Bob Marley
Frank Zappa
A lot of good people mentioned. I'd probably add Michael Hutchence.
