They're a bit of a mixed bag. But they are generally considered to be part of Europe especially politically and culturally. But from a tectonic plates/geological point of view, they're technically both North American and European.

From my time there in July, the Icelanders consider themselves Icelanders first, Nordic (not Scandinavian) second and European last.

A fascinating country with beautiful scenery. The people are great too.

When I was there in July, there was an activity where you can scuba dive between the North American and European tectonic plates. Unfortunately, didn't have the time. But that would've been cool.

Since when is Greenland North American?

I've just neve thought of it that way , given Denmark sorta owns it nut i guess that dont mean much with overseas territories and stuff

Well remember when the Vikings discovered Greenland it was a new world to them. Erik the Red discovered it in the 10th Century but after he and the first colonists died off, it wasn't until the 18th Century that the Danish returned. I'd say as part of a land mass it qualifies as North America.

I think that's also true for the rest of Europe. We all know we are European, but I can't think of an instance that I actually identify as European except in discussions about Europe with non-Europeans.

Actually, I have been to Spain and England, but many decades ago, traveling with my family. I was a little kid. I've only been to Europe once as an adult, to visit my sister who was working at the U.N. in Geneva.
