Your 2024 wrapped

If you feel so inclined, hit me with your faves of 2024:

Movie
TV Show
Album
Song

Mine:

Movie: All of Us Strangers (think this might have been released right at the end of 2023 but I have had a slow year catching new releases, and this one floored me)

TV show: Baby Reindeer

Album: Soda - The Rubens

Song: Good Luck Babe - Chappell Roan

reply

Movie: Inside Out 2: Not as good as the first one but I still like the concept.
TV show: I'm going to go with Baby Reindeer, too. One of the most profound shows I've ever seen.

I'm afraid all the music I listen to is old school so I don't have any 2024 songs to list. If BTS ever gets out of the South Korean army and makes some new music maybe one day I'll have something current to add. 😁

reply

How great was Baby Reindeer? The ensuing fall-out with the real life Martha was almost as enthralling to watch. What a bizarre story it was!!

reply

Yes, watching the real Martha being interviewed was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

reply

She’s obviously not well but I couldn’t help feel sorry for her being railroaded by that jerk Piers Morgan in that interview. It boiled my blood hearing him bang on about Netflix’s failure in their duty of care for her. Like he was making her situation any better with that interview. He is such a disingenuous knob.

reply

The whole interview was cringe-worthy and the story in Baby Reindeer was both sad and fascinating. There's a lot of hurt in this world.

reply

Agreed. It’s kind of a fairytale ending for Richard Gadd though, going through such extended trauma then using his talent to turn it into his finest achievement so far. I really admired how honest he was about his personal life and inclinations too. That took a whole lot of balls.

reply

Yes, there was a lot of raw emotion in that show. Even though most of us could not identify with some of what they were feeling, it was still somewhat relatable because of his honesty. I was cheering when he won his Emmys.

reply

NO CLUE WHAT A BABY REINDEER IS....BUT I ADDED IT TO MY WATCHLIST BASED ON THIS EXCHANGE

reply

TV Show: Either 'Fallout' or 'The Penguin'

Movie: 'The Substance'

I don't keep up with current music, so I can't say. I literally have no idea who The Rubens or Chappell Roan are that's how out of it I am 😂

reply

All good Vince!

Ah so The Penguin is worth a watch? I didn’t really get into Gotham so was in two minds about watching The Penguin, but on your recommendation I’ll check it out. Thanks mate.

Yeah Chappell Roan has had a huge year globally and Good Luck Babe is a banger for the ages:

The Rubens are an Aussie band so I didn’t expect most people here to be familiar with them but Soda was a world-class album. Not a single filler track.

reply

Movie - Deadpool and Wolverine
TV Show - 3 Body Problem
Album - Forever - Bon Jovi
Song - Good Luck Babe - Chappell Roan

reply

I really wanted to like Deadpool and Wolverine more than I did. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood when I watched it. I chuckled a few times but the self-referential humour got a bit exhausting for me. Not a bad movie though, by any stretch.

reply

I WANTED TO LIKE IT TOO...AND I DID...SEVEN WATCHES WORTH.😉

reply

Right now I think my favourite movie is I saw the TV glow but this year I’ve seen many new releases so I plan to make a thread when I’m done watching all those on my list. I’m normally like you, watching movies 1 or 2 years behind everyone else but this year, I was spoiled with way more interesting stuff then I feel I was in the past recent years.

reply

I hadn’t even heard of I Saw The TV Glow so I just googled it and yeah, keen to check that one out too.

Looking forward to seeing your thread. You’ve got good taste so I can use it for recommendations:)

reply

I have new favourite!

I’ll give you a hint: 😁2

reply

Ah, nice one! I’ve heard that it’s far better than the first instalment. I was lukewarm on that one but definitely keen to check out part 2. Thanks for the heads up!

reply

Smile: 7/10
Smile 2: 8.8/10

reply

I ACTUALLY WANT TO SEE SMILE 2 NOW...AND I DISLIKED THE FIRST ONE....AWESOME.

reply

I'm watching smile 2 now. To me so far It just seems like a remake of the original, No new information. Just a lot of cool effects.

reply

ALI AND PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE I LIKE ENJOYED THE FIRST...ALI IS CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO SEE PART 2....A LOT OF COOL EFFECTS IS A SELLING POINT AT LEAST

reply

I just looked at my IMDB list for 2024 and I agree. I saw the TV glow was my favorite too.

reply

WOW....I BETTER GET ON WATCHING THAT ONE...YOU AND STONEY BOTH LOVED IT.😘

reply

Be in the mood for a sometime mellow and slow, sometime psychedelic and strange and sometime emotional and nostalgic flick. Brings you out of your comfort zone but hits very familiar notes.

It’s not your usual horror.

reply

WILL DO...IT'S ON MY LIST AND IN MY HEAD NOW...SO IT WON'T BE LONG....I WILL BE GETTING BACK AT YA WITH MY THOUGHTS.

reply

Movie: none
TV Show: none
Song: none

I'm not even joking. This has been a mediocre year for movies. I don't watch TV shows that often because it takes up too much time and deters me away from movies (although I'm currently watching Star Trek: Voyager.) As for music, I generally avoid anything past 2004-ish.

reply

same here:

Fictional Movie: none
TV Show: none
Song: none

and like you I'm not joking.
I avoid almost anything from the last 10 years. I just don't care anymore.

reply

I actively avoid searching for new music. I just can't find it. All new music I hear is by accident through a YouTube suggestion or played in a movie.

reply

Me too. I am only listen to old music these days.

reply

GET OFF MY LAWN YOU TWO!!

Kidding, fair enough. Personally I would get bored shitless not listening to or watching anything new. In terms of music at least, Spotify has been a godsend for keeping me interested in new albums and songs. There’s thousands of new acts releasing really interesting, fresh music in all genres every week globally. I guess it’s all about whether you can be bothered seeking it out. It’s like a hobby for me, I love it!

reply

GET OFF MY LAWN YOU TWO!!

UNLIKE KIWIJIM...I AM NOT KIDDING...JEEZ...COUPLE OF OLD GEEZERS.😂

reply

reply

I did. I didn't hate it as much as a lot of people did.

reply

I THOUGHT TRAP WAS DECENT...HIGH FIVE!✋🏻

reply

YES!!! Tiny Moves was one of my top tracks of the year too. Got high rotation on my Spotify. Surprised and impressed that you picked that one 😃👍

reply

I WAS LISTENING TO MUSIC WITH A FRIEND AND CAME ACROSS TINY MOVES...I HAVE BEEN ON BLEACHERS EVER SINCE....BOTH THAT FRIEND AND MY PARTNER ARE BLEACHERS FANS NOW TOO........THIS WAS THE YEAR OF BLEACHERS.

reply

Fucking awesome! I love that.

Hey K-man, check this one out when you get a moment and let me know what you think. It’s in the same wheelhouse as Bleachers. It’s one of my top new discoveries of 24. Irish band called The Coronas. For me this is one of those goosebumps songs, almost chose it as the best of 24 but Chappell pipped it through number of plays alone. Interested to hear what you think:

‘Ghosting’
