We're All Just Apes Anyway...

Sometimes when I'm out for a walk around the park or something I get this strange perception shift and start seeing everyone else as what we are, i.e. clothed apes.

Does anyone else get this? It's kind of weird just to see people with their coats on, holding on to their precious phones maybe, and no longer see everyone as other people - different ages, looks, etc - and just see them as animals, masquerading as something above their station.

Almost like a reverse anthropomorphism.

Anyway, does anyone else ever enjoy this experience, or am I simply mentally insane?

I have never done that but it's an interesting take.

Different but maybe related, when I think of other people in this world, I tend to think of them in general terms like "my fellow men" rather than getting too detailed. There's a good feeling associated with focusing on shared humanity, rather than what divides us. By the same token, viewing us all as fellow apes just trying to get through this life could be beneficial, too.

You need to read and watch Altered States if you haven't already.

I haven't seen that - Just looked it up and I see one of it's stars is the president of NBC!

Anyway, yes I will try to find that as it sounds interesting but for me personally, it's just a glancing realisation that we can look at other people as if we were watching animals in the zoo. I'm not undergoing (or believe that am I) any personal change...

Does that mean I can start calling you BigfootOfDavros?

Ha! Good one - but only if you can perfect the art as well!

Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place, and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans.
