According to Julius Schwartz (famed editor of DC Comics from 1944-1986 who edited the most famous of all external-underwear superheroes, Superman), this was simply modeled after the garb of aerial circus performers and wrestlers of the era in which the first superheroes proudly donned their underpants over their tights.
1. Do you call them something other than underpants?
2. Couldn't they have just had those pockets in their regular pants?
3. As a computer, where do you wear your underpants?
Well Leroy, you were supposed to answer my question about underpants so I could ask you if Canadians called them something else like bloomers, drawers or the cutesy underpantehs!
Maybe I didn't want the whole internet (or at least the three people who might read this) to know about our exchange! Those were clearly American dollars so, uh, you wouldn't have been the one paying.
Depends on where you are in the country. I know in the prairies, there are the slang terms gitch, gotch, ginch, and gonch for I think briefs. I think it comes from a Ukrainian word.
As for ladies underwear, I can't think of slang for them here.
I checked with some folk from my work and got different answers. One guy said ginch was women's and gonch was men's, but that's not what I've known. So yeah....
I'm going to practice talking to you like a normal person.
Why thank you for making me aware of their underpant pockets. It seems like they would need Tums due to their stressful jobs and Kleenex for the occasional inflamed nasal passage. I appreciate your input and hope you have a nice day.
I couldn't tell from the clip if Iron Man had on underpants or not but regardless they'd have been donned in the correct order even if they were there. Maybe it's just DC superheroes who are confused?
Superman needs the extra fabric. Now you must understand the following reasoning is based on Kryptonian Biology on Earth in the presence of the Sun:
When a Kryptonian flatulates, the earth fibers are unable to withstand the force of the gasses passing through them. Superman's Kryptonian fibers were limited and there was only enough for the cape and the crotch.
Batman on the other hand added extra padding in the front and back due to the Joker's cheap shots and shark attack pranks.
