Some of you may recall that we are abroad every December, so this is the only way my daughter gets to help put the tree

An excellent example of how to decorate. It's sad you won't be home to enjoy it.

Save the holiday season.

Iā€™ve spent the last 40 years abroad for Christmas and New Year (my daughter has never spent Xmas and NY in the UK) - itā€™s fun to see what happens in other countries.

Beautiful!šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ» BTW, where do you go for the whole month? Also, do you have a broad in every port?šŸ¤

reply

Thanks. This year we will go to Tenerife.

Iā€™ll admit that was a new one for me. OMGosh, just a gorgeous place. It must be nice to have the funds to travel as you doā€¦and for a WHOLE MONTH!!

Off the rails a bit as youā€™re the only Brit, who I know is a Brit. Do you own, what has been a dream of mine for years, a BURBERRY trench coat with the signature plaid? The coat has an interesting history. Thomas Burberry was only 21 when he opened his business.

ā€ Like European fashion icons Louis Vuitton and HermĆØs, Burberry has history. It was founded by Thomas Burberry in 1856, who was passionate about the idea that clothing needed to be designed to withstand Britain's weather. His answer to this was to invent gabardine ā€” which, as a fabric, is breathable, waterproof, and long-lasting. But Burberry made fashion history by using gabardine to make its iconic trench coat, which was invented during the First World War between 1914 and 1918, and was designed to carry military equipment. By 1955, Burberry's weather gear, which featured what Gentleman's Gazette calls the brand's iconic Novacek tartan pattern, was granted a royal certification by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II for making weatherproof jackets (via Burberry).ā€

Thanks - Iā€™ve worked hard and have been blessed with a great life.

My wife owns a Burberry coat.

Lucky her! šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ» $2500 to $3000 or more! Have you priced the handbags? Whew!

Just a bit of history about THE BURBERRY TRENCH COAT:

As the war imploded, the Burberry trench coat adapted. Each detail of the coat had significance for military use, from its belted waist and flared skirt allowing for warmth without excessive length ā€” which would trail on mud.ā€

ā€ The trench coat became an optional item of dress in the British Army, and was obtained by private purchase by officers and Warrant Officers Class I who were under no obligation to own them.[7] No other ranks were permitted to wear them. The unlucky soldiers in the trenches had to wear regular military issue garb.

ā€In 1914, Burberry was commissioned by the British War Office to redesign and adapt the coat to the required specifications for World War I, resulting in the new ā€œtrench coatā€. Some of the added features were the shoulder straps for military epaulets and ā€˜Dā€™ metal rings on the waist for tools like grenades and water canisters.ā€œ

The coat became very popular in movies such as worn by Humphrey Bogart in ā€œCasablancaā€ which led it to become an upscale fashion trend.

The Burberry trench coat is acceptable for all manners of dressā€¦even EVENING GOWNS! The Burberry is a status symbol.

Letā€™s not talk about her handbag collection, lol.

reply

Oh please! That is my weakness & I want you to ask her for a list. If my deceased husband was aware he would have divorced me! I have a feeling your wifeā€™s collection is far more expensive than mine. I at one time had over 10 Dooney-Bourke handbags. I unloaded some & recently purchased 2 more. But, I will not part with my Brahmin handbags. I have 12 and they will go with me to the wild blue yonder. They arenā€™t sold on home shopping & if ever on saleā€¦I missed the sales. These 2 brands arenā€™t the only handbags I own. I own a slew of less expensive handbags. $200 & less. Some still have the tags on them after 4 years of purchase!

Donā€™t get me started on my shoes!

Still pretty.

Yes it is, thanks.
