Potato Salad recipes

I wasn't really aware that there was really a white people potato salad, as there are different types of potato salads from all over the place. I was just wondering what type of potato salad do you like to make?

My go is a mishmash of different ones I've tried. It's more of a German style, but I mash the potatoes a little bit. Instead of vinegar, I use dill pickle brine. Tiny bit of mayo. Add bacon, some chopped pickles, red onions, and chopped hard boiled egg. Seasoned with some garlic powder, and fresh dill.

I've never made my own potato salad. On the list below the two that appeal to me the most are Classic Southern potato salad and Bombay potato salad.

I've made one similar to the Bombay and it was really good.

I have never actually made potato salad but my mother made it every Easter growing up. This recipe is pretty close to hers minus the onions.

My problem with so many potato salads is that I hate mustard with a passion. :)

reply

There are some potato salads sold in grocery store delis here that don't have mustard in them. I think they are considered gourmet around here. 😁 Traditional Southern potato salad does have mustard in it though.

reply

That's why I lean more to the German or Irish style, with my own additions.

reply

Oooh....and Miracle Whip. That shit is nasty.

reply

Oh I hate Miracle Whip, too. I don't actually know anyone who eats it. It's mayonnaise all the way.

I EAT IT....MEAN WOMEN!😭

I love potato salads. I like to try different things and spices to make them. Last week I made one with these ingredients to a family get together and it was a big hit:

Potatoes
Pickled red onion
Pickled red bell pepper
Feta cheese
Garlic
Lemon juice
Curry powder
Mayo

That sounds interesting. Thanks

My mum makes the best potato salad in the world, I’ve never tasted one as good. I’ll try to remember to ask her for the recipe next time we speak.

Years ago I was in charge of bringing homemade potato salad to a pot luck party at work. I went to the grocery store and bought a couple of tubs of potato salad. I then dumped the potato salad into a fancy bowl, sprinkled a little paprika on top for color and garnished it with parsley. I lied and said it was my grandmother's secret recipe which I didn't divulge and many coworkers said it was the best potato salad ever. The power of persuasion is very strong.

Tsk tsk. So dishonest. 🀣🀣

I HAVE NEVER MADE POTATO SALAD MYSELF...BUT I ENJOY EATING IT....DEVILED EGG POTATO SALAD IS MY FAVORITE.

SO I GOOGLED AN INGREDIENT LIST....

Gather these ingredients to whip up this potato salad:

Yukon Gold or Red Potatoes: Waxy, thin-skinned spuds hold their shape when boiled for this creamy salad.
Hard-Boiled Eggs: You’ll need a dozen eggs boiled until firm, with half the yolks mashed for the dressing.
Mayonnaise: It binds the deviled egg dressing together.
Dijon or Yellow Mustard: It adds a tangy, zesty kick to cut through the creamy dressing.
White Vinegar or Cider Vinegar: The signature acidic punch in the deviled dressing.
Dill Pickle Relish or Diced Gherkins: Briny, crunchy pickles bring a deli salad taste.
Fresh Dill: To accent the salad with herbiness.
Paprika: It adds color and a subtle, smoky flavor to the deviled dressing.
Diced Celery and Diced Onion: To add some crunch and depth.
Salt and Pepper: Adjust this classic duo to your taste preferences.

I HOPE YOU IGNORED THE BLACK SPOILER BOX...AND IF YOU DIDN'T....I LOOKED FOR A RECIPE WITHOUT IT...I COULD NOT FIND ONE...JUST IGNORE IT...LIKE FOR REAL...DELETING IT FELT DECEITFUL...SO I LEFT IT...BUT IT IS NOT IMPORTANT...IT'S JUST A MIRAGE....IT'S NOT EVEN THERE.πŸ™‚
