Last night we watched Pet Sematary (1989)

My 10 year old daughter found it a little creepy.

This is what we’ve seen with horror elements so far: -

Addams Family I and II (1991/93)
Alien (1979)
The Amazing Mr Blunden (1972)
Babysitter I and II (2017/22)
Beetlejuice (1988)
Dr Who (2005-)
Five Nights At Freddy’s (2023)
Fright Night (2011)
Gremlins I and II (1984/90)
The Haunting (1999)
Hocus Pocus I and II (1993/2022)
I Know What You Did Last Summer I and II (1997/98)
It I and II (2017/19)
The Lost Boys (1987)
M3GAN (2022)
Pet Sematary (1989)
Prey (2022)
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Stranger Things (2016-)
Wednesday (2022-)
The Thing (1982)

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. We will wade through them as best we can: -

reply

What were her thoughts on Zelda? I still remember her as one of the scariest monsters from any movie growing up.

reply

There wasn’t anything in particular that she felt scary, just the premise of the film itself. She normally just laughs at the ridiculousness of it all.

reply

Such a memorable yet unsatisfying movie.

reply

I liked it.

reply

It really is a bonafide classic unlike the remake and it's a movie that sort of makes you feel like shit after watching it and had that grim tone to it. Did your daughter enjoy it??

reply

She did; so far she finds the horror/slasher genres ridiculously funny, however, this one seemed to give her pause for thought.

reply

I like a lot in it. Bit something about it doesn't hit me right. I think Dale Midkiff didn't work for me. They or Ellie.

Otherwise it's very effective. Especially Gage saying, "I wanna play with you."

reply

I hate to spoil anything so I won’t but Fred Gwynne was the perfect guy for his role and there were several disturbing scenes for sure!

The remake is entertaing as well though not as memorable.

reply

I liked the scene where he's calling out something like "Come on out, Gage, I got something for ya!" as he takes out a knife

Why is the word cemetery misspelled in the title? Is there a meaning behind it?

Signed, million man.

reply

The misspelling was because very young kids started the Pet Cemetery and they messed up the spelling.

I post typos all the time. It happens!

reply

Okay. That makes sense

Signed, million man.

It's just another example of Stephen King's creativity. Like Cujo. Where did that name even come from? And if you're going to write a story about a rabid dog, make it a St. Bernard, large and powerful, which is what makes it so terrifying.

reply

Cujo is nearing the top of the ‘horror watch list’.

reply

I'm afraid she might be desensitized to horror when she finally sees it. 😉

reply

She finds horror to be ridiculously funny.

reply

Ok, my fears are groundless. She's desensitized. 😁

reply

Don’t forget she loves spiders too - weird kid, lol.

reply

I did forget. Have you gotten around to this yet?https://moviechat.org/tt0119675/ Mimic I think she's destined to become an entomologist, like the protagonist in the movie.

reply

It’s somewhere in the ever burgeoning matmoss that is our watchlist.

reply

Me too...always have. Horrors are my comedies.

reply

They are for the most part ridiculous.

It did spawn this good song

reply

One! Two! Three! Four!

reply

I love watching the Ramones live where they just run one song into another with the only break between them being a rapid One-Two-Three etc

reply

I can't believe you watched it at night!!

reply

We did 😬

reply

Andy, have you shown the movie "SE7EN" to her or is that one a little too intense??

reply

Hmmmmmm, this is more a psychological thriller - I think I might wait a while for this one (by the time we plough through the list she’ll be old enough, lol).
