super hero CGI fight fans...

Can you tell me what makes super hero CGI fights interesting?

I can't get my head around why these movies are so popular.
CGI fights are empty and pointless to me. They lack all peril and feel like simple cartoons with zero impact on anything.

What is the thrill of them for you? Is it just Comic Book action fun?
I don't get it.

Simple pleasures for simple minds.

I'm not a fan of CGI fights. After the Matrix mixed wire work with CGI, it was inevitable that CGI would take over.

It's cheaper, safer, and it can expand fights in scale and location.

We got to see fights across galaxies with foreign or alien entities. In the 90's, a fight with the hulk would require Styrofoam rocks and plastic or rubber suits. In the 2000's, we saw iron man and hulk fight through a city (literally).

Yes it's fake, but it has good applications for fantasy, sci-fi, and action.

I'm holding out for Marvel's next CGI fight movie, 123Guy versus Staw Man.

anything valid/related to add to this adult discussion, or just your typical personal digs?

It's just fantasy.

while I agree, 10 mintues of fake guys punching others through brick walls makes me want to escape to something else. it gets old fast. TO ME.

I mean, a super hero punches another industructable super hero through a deadly brick wall that does nothing to them... .they dont learn that after the first one? What are they hoping to gain by more and more pointless (not hurting anyone) punching?

I'm trying to get into it, but I just press FAST FORWARD everytime.

Then you're simply too old for superhero movies or you are taking everything too seriously and need to chill?? 🤔

reply

well... someone brought up Iron Man, which I really enjoyed until the final cartoon battle at the end... but even that served the story pretty well. So, trying not to be too serious....

but... .I'm just curious how/why entertaining it can be same old dull punch fest where no one is ever hurt.

granted im old and don't watch them anymore mostly becuase of this.. just wondered how one gets to suspension of disbelief for these actions. I know it's a ME thing. :)

I like seeing stuff blow up real good.

kee hee kee hee blowed up REAL GOOD!

Nothing. That's why I hate Marvel movies.

Well, I suspect your phrase 'comic book action fun' probably pretty much covers it. They're just a bit of escapist fluff. They're mostly family friendly, so they can be shared between different generations -- parents can watch them and talk about them with their kids. And watch their kids get excited. A lot of people seem to have grown up with the comic books, so there's a nostalgia factor there. They're not taxing emotionally or intellectually, so tired people can just switch their brains off. They're just big blockbuster spectacles.

As such, I'm not sure the underlying appeal of comic book movies is any different from the underlying appeal of earlier forms of blockbuster. You can argue about the quality of the filmmaking, of course, but there's only a hop, skip and a jump from Iron Man to Indiana Jones.

ikr? combine that with superheroes being stupid and pointless and you've got the perfect storm of tedium!
