The most 1980s song

I would say it's this one. Can you find another one with equal or greater embodiment of the 1980s?

total eclipse of the heart

Yep, that one was huge. I always thought that Bonnie Tyler's gravely voice made her sound tough. I was glad to see it get a brief revival this past year during the big eclipse in the US.

I think it would have to be a song from the mid 1980s, since the late 1970s bleeds into the early 1980s and the late 1980s bleeds into the early 1990s.

Also, I think it would have to be a song that was not only a hit on the charts, but was also part of the soundtrack of a hit movie, since that's drastically more impact on pop culture than a song that's only a hit on the charts.

So, I'll say:

The Power of Love (1985) by Huey Lewis and the News

It reached number one on the charts, with Billboard calling it "an out-of-the-box monster hit," and was the main song from, and was written for, the blockbuster Back to the Future (1985), which was the number one movie at the box office in mid-to-late 1985 for about three months.

Association with a movie definitely helped some songs be smash hits and big memories. When I posted True by Spandau Ballet I was picturing the school dance scene from Sixteen Candles.

No doubt full of 80s vibes

My band plays this tune, and it always gets a great response!

Also, this is a great insight and absolutely true...

A little bit of new wave, a little bit of synth, some 80s bold color and a mix of catchy beats & you get this 1980s vibe: https://youtu.be/a75FC9vBkmc?si=ERAUUaTEqn5raKOX

You're spot on with that, but here's another 80's song that knocked it out of the park at the time

Wow!

How "woke" of you to post a tune by such a flamboyantly gay icon...

Perhaps the influence of JD Vance is inspiring more acceptance of androgyny and queer culture within the GOP!
