Facelift, Dirt and their 1995 self titled album are all solid records, if a little morose at times. 90s rock sure took a big depressing shit on the fun 80s rock sound.
Their second era was interesting, they seemed to mellow out from the drug bullshit. I liked 'Black Gives Way to Blue' and 'The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here', they are among the better post 90s rock records.
What set AIC apart from the other grunge bands was Jerry Cantrell's guitar playing. He could actually play proper guitar solos (unlike the guys in Pearl Jam, Nirvana etc) and write melodies similar to his hero Eddie Van Halen. He's a very good songwriter and the talent in the band.
