Now watching Runaway Train (1985)

It was Mr. fourlemons turn to pick a movie. He was nice enough to pick one with a disaster element to it. Anyone like this movie or have any thoughts on it?

reply

Oh yeah! A favorite of mine from when I first saw it.

reply

We just finished it. It was good! I think I was wrong to call it a disaster movie. It was more of a suspense/action movie, but I like suspense movies in general.

reply

I agree. I hesitated, eyebrows raised at the "disaster movie" part.

I watched it recently after having not seen it in over 20 years. It's pretty good, better than I remembered. I watched it because Eric Roberts talked about it on a podcast. He's great in it and so is Jon Voight.

reply

I agree it's pretty good. While I've seen better, after watching "2012" earlier today, in comparison it felt like an artistic masterpiece. 😂 (But even by itself, it was good.)

reply

Oh yeah, 2012 is dumb as hell and not a good movie, but for some reason I've ended up watching it multiple times over the years, or at least parts of it.

Voight's character seemed similar to me to the one he played in this https://moviechat.org/tt0118615/Anaconda

I'm tempted to look it up on tubi and watch it again.

*SPOILER* The opening about having been welded in his cell (for 6 years was it?) was a good attention getting gimmick but a stretch. Someone in the Bureau of Prisons or the Supreme Court would have been crying "...foul, that's 'cruel and unusual' punishment!" Even the most incorrigible inmates in solitary confinement are allowed some regular but limited yard time.

Give it a watch, it's a fun movie. It's on prime video too, that's where I watched it.

reply

Got it on now. Found it on pluto tv. Surprised I couldn't get it on Tubi or YouTube.

reply

It's a great suspense movie, in fact imho one of the best I've ever seen.
