Name a movie that ruined or damaged an actress/actor's career?

Don't google it, check articles or reddit. Name me some that YOU personally know of.

A few that I personally know of.

1. The Love Guru - Mike Myers
2. The Master of Disguise - Dana Carvey
3. Cutthroat Island - Geena Davis
4. G.I. Jane - Will Smith

reply

G.I. Jane - Will Smith

This one took me a second.

reply

I was gonna put Demi Moore but it really took Will Smith down a peg.

reply

I have always enjoyed Will Smith but Wild Wild West really sucked and made me look at the guy twice for his choices of scripts.

reply

Even before the slap, I think the last film of his that I enjoyed was Men in Black 3.

Enjoyed Bad Boys 3 but mostly cause of Martin Lawrence. Man, I miss seeing Martin on the big screen.

reply

I still gotta see Bad Boys 3,
Lawrence is a very funny dudeđź‘Ť

reply

BAD BOYS 3 AND 4 NOW....YOU ARE BEHIND...AND YOU'RE GONNA DIG EM TOO...GET TO IT.

reply

Didn’t playing Robin kill Chris O'Donnell’s career? Although I don’t know if it was from Batman Forever which did pretty good at the box office or only after the Batman & Robin disaster.

reply

Oh most definitely. Him & Alicia Silverstone's career suffered the most thanks to Batman & Robin

reply

Dana Carvey is my all-time favorite Saturday Night Live cast member. It's a shame that he never really starred in a movie that fully captured his talents (although I think he did OK with the "Wayne's World" movies financially).

A couple that I remember:

"Gigli" - Jennifer Lopez (and Ben Affleck, to a certain degree)...that movie got roasted by the critics and late-night comedians back when it was first released.

"Evan Almighty" - Steve Carell

Edit: Just thought of another one that needs mentioned: "Mr. Magoo" - Leslie Nielsen. I loved Leslie Nielsen and remember that this movie just got panned by the critics upon release. I watched it on TV a couple of years later...and the critics got this one right, unfortunately. It just was not good...I don't think Leslie Nielsen did many movies after this one.

reply

They aren’t big movies but I enjoyed him in Burt Lancaster’s and Kirk Douglas’ s Tough Guys movie and in Opportunity Knocks.

reply

I LEGIT LOVE OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS...USED TO RENT IT AS A KID ALL THE TIME...HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A COPY AS AN ADULT.

reply

The early to mid 2000s kinda killed Affleck's career as a leading man.

He had to like "reinvent" his career in the 2010s.

reply

The Master of Disguise is not a good movie overall but I enjoyed the turtle bit.

reply

IIRC Sean Young wanted to be catwoman in one of the Batman sequels and she did something bizarre and Hollywood ostracized her.

reply

I think she was also being sued by James Woods around the same time for stalking him & his fiancee.

Her behaviour & bad press killed her career, unfortunately.

reply

Mike Myers survived The Cat in the Hat because he was just an actor in it. The Love Guru, OTOH, he was also a writer and producer. It ruined his career.

Star Wars that had Hayden Christensen, I don't think his career survived at all?

reply

The only film of his I remember after that is Jumper. Which I personally liked.

Dude got unnecessarily shit on for the prequel trilogy

reply

HE ENDED UP DOING DIRECT TO DVD CRAP...NOW HE'S BACK AT THE STAR WARS.

reply

Showgirls- Elizabeth Berkeley

reply

Oh ya, that's an unfortunate one. That killed her career before it could even take off.

reply

THAT'S A CONTENDER FOR NUMBER ONE....HER CAREER BECAME A PUNCHLINE BEFORE IT EVR STARTED.

reply

Batman and Robin - Pretty much the entire cast suffered problems with their careers, save for Arnold Schwarzenegger. It took Uma Thurman and George Clooney years to recover their careers, whereas a lot of other actors saw their careers just plain die, or go on life-support. Alicia Silverstone hasn't been seen since this movie, and the most Chris O'Donnel has been able to dredge up was a role on a crappy version of "NCIS" that takes place in Los Angeles. Everyone else just plain disappeared.

reply

Looking at their filmography, Clooney got off the easiest imo.

Immediately after Batman & Robin he had leading roles in "Out of Sight" a year later, "Three Kings" the year after & the next 2 years he did, "O Brother, Where art thou" and "Ocean's 11"

reply

While those movies got him money and work experience, I personally found them not worthy of watching, or they sucked.

reply

I was a kid when Batman & Robin came out. So none of the actors sucked for me.

I only watched the rest of his films in my late teens.

Except for Ocean's 11. That's been a fave of mine for a long time.

reply

I was a kid when "Batman and Robin" came out as well, so it doesn't have the same kind of effect on me as it would have if I'd been an adult watching it for the first time. In fact, the Schumaucher films do better with kids than they do for adults, they're so campy and cheesy.

reply

I remember watching Phone Booth & being genuinely surprised to find out that he directed it. One of my all time favorite thrillers!

reply

"Out of Sight" a year later, "Three Kings" the year after & the next 2 years he did, "O Brother, Where art thou" and "Ocean's 11"

LMAO...THOSE ARE ALL GREAT MOVIES...POPULAR TITLES THAT ILLUSTRATE CLOONEY WAS JUST FINE....DESPITE YOUR WEIRD OPINIONS.
