Disaster movie recommendations

I've always liked disaster movies. Volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, meteorites, movies depicting disasters in outer space, etc, I like them all.

Although I prefer ones that attempt to be realistic and well made, I really would be willing to watch any disaster movie even those bordering on campy and ridiculous. For example, I would prefer something like Twister to Sharknado but will accept any recommendations.

What disaster movie would you recommend?

Did anyone post “2012”? One of the best with John Cusack.

This list is great, thanks! I've seen several votes for 2012 so it will be high on the list.

Miracle Mile (1988) and Jericho (2006) both have a Threads / Chernobyl feel, the first deals with 70 minutes before the nukes fall and the latter months and years after though they are not related!

Gray Lady Down (1978)
Goliath Awaits (1981)

As a follow up, several of you recommended The Poseidon Adventure and my husband wanted to watch it, so we watched it this evening. (He had seen it before.) I thought it was good and it kept my attention the whole time. I love watching movies from the 70s.

I'll continue working through this list!

One can go back to being a little boy on this one....

Saw both in the theater.....

"Poseidon Adventure"

"The Towering Inferno"

They were great for their time - not sure if they've held up though.

The Poseidon Adventure was a little dated but I actually love the feel of the 70s because it reminds me of my childhood. It still kept my attention and it's one of those movies I've always heard of so I'm glad I watched it.
