Directors who haven't done a movie in a long time and you want to see them return.

What's up with Spike Jonze? The guy has done some pretty solid films, but hasn't done a film since 2013 and he's only done 4 since his first film in 1999. I want to see him make a comeback.

reply

Lucas. would like to see him produce and direct a real Star Wars movie.

reply

Real as in 90% not CGI?

reply

do you want another puppet movie with stop motion animation?

reply

Better than CGI.

reply

I guess thats why all movies made after 2000 use CGI.

it would be funny though seeing Avatar with puppets and 1976 technology.

reply

CGI is only good in small doses. The original Star Wars trilogy used CGI correctly. The prequel trilogy had entire backgrounds that were CGI, Jar Jar Binks, Watto, Yoda, Sebulba, the two-headed long-necked character I don't know the name to, Jabba the Hutt, Boss Nass, General Grievous, the droids and even Storm Troopers.

reply

you should write Lucas a letter and tell him how Jar Jar ruined your childhood.

reply

Jo some people will be going to their grave still longing for the days of movies shot on film with 0% CGI.

Grain, puppets... to be watched at home on VHS and their 20 inch televison. Like the good old days.

reply

I get that, but the OT was not 0% CGI. how would you do a space battle with practical effects?

Lucas created new effects in 1977, everyone was awed. Lucas created new effects in 1999. everyone was like I want my star wars to be like 1977.

the good ole days is only relevant to when you were born. people that grew up with silent movies would say the same thing. member the good ole days when movies didnt have sound and had subtitles? or back in my day, movies were black and white and had mono sound.

what I find ironic, is that no one complains about the new star wars using CGI or the 25 marvel movies that use CGI. for some reason people are still butt hurt the Prequels had cutting edge technology for the time and still look good after 25 years.

You're 100% right that nostalgia is almost entirely based on the person in questions age. It's part of human nature to be nostalgic for the movies, music, fashion, etc, of ones youth.

Hence why you get a lot of people on this site (and the internet in general) in their 40s-60s who think all new movies are awful and that movies, music, fashion, life itself peaked in the 70s and 80s... when they were kids/teens.

I've seen people online say that people who enjoy the prequels are blinded by nostalgia... they seem oblivious to the fact that nostalgia works it's magic on them with regards to their precious original trilogy.

The guy who directed Bone Tomahawk-been 6 years
Oliver Stone

reply

Dang, beat me to S. Craig Zahler by nine minutes.

reply

S. Craig Zahler was working on a film the last few years but a few months ago they announced that he dropped out. It might be a while longer for him.

reply

Dragged Across Concrete was excellent. That was 2018. Been a while.

reply

Didn't see that one but liked his other two films.

reply

He's working on "The Bookie & The Bruiser" with Adrien Brody & Vince Vaugn. Set for release next year.

reply

Sergio Leone.

I know he's dead but I'd like to see him return and make a new movie.

reply

Let’s resurrect Ennio Morricone to score this new film also. :)

reply

Yes!!!

reply

Well if that's the case, put me down for a new Kubrick film.

reply

I think in our lifetimes we will see AI films made "in the style of X" -- I'm not sure how I feel about this

reply

John Carpenter

reply

Escape from Chicago. Just finish off the trilogy.

reply

I'm a big fan of his but he hasn't made a well liked movie in 3 decades (In the Mouth of Madness is the last one he made that was well received... it came out in 1994!). He's completely finished. There is no point dusting himself off to deliver a movie that nobody will enjoy. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

reply

Glen Morgan who directed the 2006 Black Christmas hasn't made a movie since. It's a real shame as I enjoyed it.

reply

I know someone who loves that movie to the point of obsession. They watch it twice every Christmas.

reply

They sound incredibly based.

reply

#MeToo.

That's a fun slasher. It's a shame when someone comes along and makes a good movie... only for it to flop and the director to never get another chance.

reply

I've never even seen the original so maybe I should watch that too.

reply

The original is great. It's more of an atmospheric and creepy flick. Very 1970s.

The 2006 one is a colorful delight, a much less serious movie, much more entertainment driven.

reply

Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. he made some random Dutch war movie in 2020, that is one of only two movies he's made, the other being The Thing (2011).

This guy came along and took one of the most worshipped and beloved horror movies of all time and he improved upon it. I could picture him getting to reboot Halloween in 2018 instead of David Gordon Green and improving upon the 1978 original. Could you imagine this guy completely dicking Carpenter's two greatest hits? I can. He had so much potential.

Sadly The Thing flopped (just like the 1982 remake) and the rest is history. The poor reception to that movie from bozos stuck in 1982 is pathetic. A bunch of nostalgic fart heads who hate almost everything released post-1989.

Stephen Sommers he made a bunch of fun flicks like Deep Rising (1998), The Mummy (1999), Van Helsing (2004), Odd Thomas (2013)... and nothing since. It's been 11 years now.

reply

IMDb does say Sommers is working on a new film.

reply

Sam Peckinpah.
He was great but the lazy bastard hasn’t made a movie in forty years!
What the hell is he so busy with?!?

reply

I don't think he's going to be making a movie anytime soon. It's just a... wild hunch.

reply

He’s probably just on a getaway.
