Your favourite villain in film ?

Mine is Agent Smith in The Matrix Trilogy.

So smooth, calm, calculating, philosophical, even respectful and gets the job done.

Hugo Weaving did a wonderful job.

Archie Cunningham (Tim Roth) - Rob Roy (1995)

That was one of the greatest sword fights in Hollywood history. Honestly, it probably beat any sword fight in Conan 1982 and I do NOT say that lightly, that’s my favorite movie. But yeah, that fight scene at the end of Rob Roy was a real wowser!

ditto

other honorable mentions...

Tarantino villains (in general)
'dad' longworth (Karl Malden) - One-Eyed Jacks (61)
jj hunsecker (Burt Lancaster) - The Sweet Smell Of Success (57)
Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) - The Godfather (72)

Cactus Jack (Kirk Douglas)

He was a living Wile E. Coyote.

Hannibal Lecter. He was only in Silence of the Lambs for about 16 minutes and he made a huge impact. A true villain!

reply

Oh yeah, I just came back to this post to mention Hopkin’s performance as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

He’s one of fictions most chilling psychopaths, I read the novel a couple of times, it’s one of the few books that actually was quite scary
And I’ve read pretty much all of them.

Cristoph Waltz as Col. Hans Landa in the Inglorious Basterds was a heck of a great villain. He was a deadly wolf in sheep’s clothing, so polite and charming and well groomed but a total Nazi monster. Great performance, I think he got an Oscar for that role!

reply

I agree completely, Waltz was fantastic in Inglourious Basterds. I thought it was a shame that magic didn’t translate to his Bond villain though, he kind of walked through that role.

reply

It was a very good performance.

I think we should mention Darth Vader here. He was totally intimidating and frightening.

I’m still displeased with the ending of Return Of The Jedi where all of a sudden he turns nice. Phooey to that nonsense, Darth was evil and all of a sudden he gets a heart?!?

Luke was handling things well enough against the Emporor, OK, he was getting his ass
Kicked by that evil Jedi lightening but still, the kid was putting up a good fight.

Suddenly Darth Vader becomes a nice guy…I really did not buy that at all.

reply

He was the first name that popped into my head, until they took his helmet off and he looked like a boiled egg, lol.

reply

Ha, he was no looker lol😵

Ever see Daniel Davis as Moriarty in two Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes? I thought he was great.
