With AI and CGI, Do you think there will....

Ever be a movie where one actor or actress plays all of the main roles in the same movie?

reply

Alec Guinness plays eight roles in Kind Hearts & Coronets. Peter Sellers plays three in the Mouse That Roared. And, of course, Eddie Murphy has done a bit of that in a couple of movies too, hasn't he?

So, in short, I'm not sure an absence of AI and CGI was ever a barrier to that.

Agreed. Civilization survived thus far without AI.

Those computer geeks are really trying to make AI happen. I'm not inclined to see more geeks becoming millionaires from something as useless as AI.

Again many actors have played several small parts in one live action movie, but I am talking ALL OF THE MAIN ROLES. Lead actor, lead actress, main supporting actors and actresses. All of them. And yes Jim Carrey and Tom Hanks have done that in animated films but not live action.

reply

We can always go back to stop action claymation.

reply

What does stop motion have to do with the topic?

reply

Lighten up Francis.

reply

Stuart J. Backturn says hold my beer.

reply

I’ll hold the beer but odds are I’ll drink it before anyone notices.

reply

Sliánte! 🍻

reply

Apologies, I’m a very bad man.

reply

Hey, that's Psycho to you.

reply

Nah. You just seem angry for no good reason. That doesn’t make you scary.

reply

I'm talking about the movie "Stripes".
That's where "Lighten up Francis" comes from.

reply

I suppose it looks a bit hokey now but I still love the claymation effects. Chalk it up to nostalgia I guess.

reply

What did you think of the improved version? I kinda like it. Retains all the quality but fixes the choppiness

reply

I didn’t really see a difference. It all looked fine to me!

reply

Forget that, there will be movies with no real actors.

Yuck.

reply

That would be one of the funniest things ever, particularly with a legendary comedian brought back to life through AI ;)

Now there have been movies where a single actor played many multiple roles. Examples would include:

The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao
The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps
Norbit

I had this movie idea that has Arnold Schwarzenegger in an action movie playing all of his iconic roles "Terminator", etc. Ultimate Schwarzenegger!

reply

Oh! There was a fun debate some guys had back in the 90s where they wondered, if Robocop and the Terminator were pitted against each other, who would win? That would make for an epic AI-generated movie! Plus, we'd finally get our answer, lol xD

reply

Also Back to the Future. Marty played his son, his daughter, himself, and his great great great grandfather.

reply

Oh yeah! I didn't realize Michael J. Fox had played multiple roles himself.

reply

AI will never take off

reply

Why is AI a factor in this premise when there have already been CGI-laden films with actors playing multiple roles?

The Polar Express (2004), A Christmas Carol (2009), and Men (2022) to name but a few.

Hackneyed question.

reply

Both are Animated, talking live action.
