I love movies. Always have. And I am not telling anyone what to do, but when I am on vacation, movie watching is the furthest thing from my mind.
Vacation is for doing things differently than you usually do.

I liked Abigail. I haven't seen the other ones you mentioned yet. I had been thinking of checking out Ad Astra for a while now.

Go see Horizon, An American Saga - Chapter 1 (2024) and see what you think of it.

I’m not much on new movies, but I went to see it and I’ve thought about it a lot since, and that’s usually a good sign for me. I’ll definitely go to see the next installment.

reply

It's so long though and I'm not a big western fan. I might consider it if it was shorter.

reply

My wife went with me and she’s not a western fan either. She actually said she would consider seeing it again before the next chapter because there were so many intertwined stories going on that, of course, will come together in the next on to come out in a month.

She did say it seemed shorter than Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), which I’ve forced her to watch at least five times over the years. Lol

Shadows in Paradise (Kaurismaki)
Anatahan (von Sternberg)
Nashville (Altman)
Harry and Tonto (Mazursky)
Sunflower (De Sica)
Series Noire (Corneau)

Good list. I have seen Shadows in Paradise, Nashville, and Harry and Tonto previously. Haven't seen the other ones.

What did you think of the movies you saw above?

Anatahan is a disaster movie where the director/narrator speaks in English, but you don't know what the characters are saying, but you can make out by observing. Experimental movie, which is probably why it was Jim Morrison's favorite movie (and maybe the fact the director was also his professor at UCLA film school)

"Sunflower" is to me the greatest love story movie. Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni and De Sica directing.

"Series Noire" is a trip. I only saw it once, and don't want to see it again so it doesn't ruin my love for it. 8/10, has vibes of "Buffalo '66". This sleazy salesman goes door-to-door and realizes this girl is being kept as a prostitute by her grandma, and ... you'll have to see the rest.

Please let me know what you think. "Sult" is another recommendation because I love movies that completely focus on one unique character. Unique movie altogether.

Nashville is one of my all time favourites, a 10/10. Harry and Tonto is great, a 9/10. Shadows in Paradise was pretty good, a 7/10.
