So my friend and I have been debating the following for years: he thinks 1984 is the bigger and better year for movies than 1999. I say it's 1999 and it's far and ahead better than 1984. What do you think? He are some of the highest ranked popular movies on IMDb of the respective years.

I own 21 films from 1984 while I only own 10 films from 1999.
Furthermore, five films from 1984 appear on my 100 Favorite Films list compared to four films from 1999.
Thus I'm gonna have to go with 1984.

'99 hands down. '84 is good but the amount of brilliant & just fun films that came out in 1999 is just crazy.

Nailed it. '99 is diverse as hell. You have banger action, comedies, thrillers, drama, sci-fi & adventure movies.

Also, some of my favorite films of all time came out in 1999.
