Ambiguous movie endings

What are some of the best ambiguous endings to movies?

reply

Birdman is the first one to come to mind and one that I thought was really well done.

Good answer.

The Thing (1982)

"Why don't we just... wait here for a little while. See what happens"

reply

Yes, that's a good one.

The Italian Job (1969).

opened thread to make sure someone had put this one :)

reply

It was literally a cliff hanger, lol.

Amibguous endings often work well.

Black Christmas, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Halloween nailed their landings. You don't always need to wrap it up in a neat little bow.

reply

Black Christmas drives younger audiences crazy by not explaining anything in the end. Definitely a good one.

THE GRADUATE.

Was he shallow for choosing the daughter over the mother?

reply

IMPETUOUS.

reply

Ah, I see.

reply

Hm, Katherine Ross v Anne Bancroft

I enjoy a milf as much as the next fellow, but yeah, I, just as Dustin, gotta go w/ Katy.

Just imagine the Thanksgiving Dinners to follow...

The mom seemed fairly cold blooded. There were reasons for it, but still.

I think he had reasons beyond age/beauty for leaving with the daughter.

reply

It's been a long time... He rides off with the daughter in the back of the bus, right?

reply

YUP...BUT IN REALITY THEY BARELY KNOW EACH OTHER...AND THAT DAWN'S ON BOTH OF THEM CLEARLY ON THEIR FACES AS THE CREDITS ROLL.

Five Easy Pieces (1970)

reply

That's a good one.

reply

Inception

reply

It's been a while since I've seen that one.

A Serious Man

What a great movie.

reply

A superb movie. One of my all-time favorites. That tornado looked pretty ominous.
