How did people (as kids & teens anyway) live without video games?

Whether on consoles like PlayStation, Nintendo, Sega and X-Box or PC games or stuff on smartphones these days - how did they manage? Like, what did they do instead to have fun whether they were available or not in spare and private time, thanks. :)

I grew up in the video game era, but my game playing really ramped up when I became old enough to buy games for myself. Before that I was limited to a game every few months, or what I could borrow from friends. It's not like now where there is an unlimited supply of games in your pocket at all times.

Before games and the internet, television was huge. Cartoons were tailored around kids schedules, saturday mornings, and weekday afternoons, MTV played music 24/7 at the time. Or we would just go outside. As kids your imagination is endless, as a teen I was more in to sports, so I would shoot into my backyard hoop, or pass a football. We would play baseball occasionally if we had enough people, or space. It's hard to do in the city, since the ball can end up in someone elses yard everytime it gets hit.

We were bored out of our fucking minds. I read a lot. I am so jealous of kids today with their access to on demand tv viewing, let alone fantastic computer games.

Video games - (I guess) - not exactly "Top of the World". Right? ( :) )

I was lucky enough to have a lot friends growing up. Well into my late teens.

We'd just play/hang out all day & go home once it got dark out.

Also, we didn't have that much in terms of distractions. I'm talking about the Internet, social media, streaming services, Youtube/tiktok, etc.

Even our entertainment offerings on TV were very limited.

Board games, bon fires, sports, forts, fishing, books, movies, and hanging out with friends.
