๐๐พDO YOU SWIM?
I CAN BUT DON'T VERY OFTEN...SOAKING IN WATER JUST ISN'T FOR ME.

An alarming number of children of primary school age can no longer swim.
Drowning is the second most common cause of death among children after traffic accidents.
Swimming is therefore one of the most important (survival) life skills.
Swimming is not that difficult and can be learned at any age. This is important for several reasons:
- Better protected against boating and swimming accidents and drowning.
- Fear-free and safe time in the water promotes healthy exercise with a high fun component.
- Builds up the muscles in a way that is easy on the joints.
- Improves endurance.
- Strengthens the immune system.
- Promotes self-confidence.
- Is an enjoyable leisure activity.
Parents play an important role in learning to swim. It's important to go to the pool together regularly and get your child used to the water in a playful way. If you are not yet able to swim yourself:
Then why not attend an adult course at the same time as your child's swimming course?

My five siblings and I all learned at the local public pool when we were kids. One year, when I was eight years old, I even won the trophy for "most-improved swimmer." Even got my picture in the newspaper - a pretty big deal in those days.
Heck, my earliest memory is from when I was about three years old. I fell in said pool and cut my head on the side of the pool. Mostly what I remember is having one of those big white bandages wrapped around my head for several days. I still have a very small bald spot where the cut was, just above my hairline in front.
My dad made friends of most of the lifeguards who worked there. It was an outdoor pool, and one day a thunderstorm approached, so they had to close the pool for safety reasons. We hung around for a while since my dad was chatting with the lifeguards. The storm moved on rather quickly, so they re-opened the pool - just for us. That was pretty cool to have the entire pool to ourselves, since everyone else had gone home when they closed.
