Eclipse coverage

I'm watching NASA unless there's something better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9yW76Qcock

Starts 10:00 Pacific, 13:00 Eastern. Begins in Mexico, Indianapolis a hour later, Newfoundland another hour later.

Less than 20% blocked in Pacific Northwest. If I knew what time I would check it out.

My entire state had very heavy cloud cover all day long. It did get a bit darker around totality, but we were only expected to experience about 75% coverage of totality here.

reply

i was lucky enough to be in a 99% zone

reply

Meaning, you saw it?

reply

yep, clear as day

reply

Or should it be dark as night??

reply

LOL!

reply

I saw it through my axe hole.

💥😎 And here I am, driving an "old lady car" as my kids called it when I first bought it 22 years ago. 🙄🤭

reply

haha

p.s. that color is called Solar

as in Solar Eclipse, lol

reply

Haha. Nice!

I don't know why I got the times wrong, they're from BBC. I needed a nap anyway.
I watched the NASA Telescope feed on youtube, so got to see the eclipse four times.

I found a proper map and found sun was only 25% covered here. There were a few moments when the sun broke though the clouds, but I could not get my "pinhole" projection to work.

Nice shot from Starlink shows a giant hole in the Earth! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ust2eR3nhJc

"My eyes hurt" was trending on Google! Don't people remember burning holes in paper with a magnifying glass?

reply

I'll never forget the coverage of the 1972 eclipse.

I work nights, so I stayed up for this and was fighting sleep around 1:25PM CT but once the Eclipse peaked, it looked like around 8PM and sunset, maybe dark enough to think it was going to rain and the birds chirped alot and some of the porch lights came on, but nothing earth shattering anymore than the 2017 Eclipse.. If I'm alive in 20 years to see the next one, we'll see what that one is like

reply

I live in the path of totality, so was able to see the corona, which was beautiful.

reply

In 2017, I was able to see a beautiful, shiny crescent. My area wasn't in the exact path, so we only got 60% coverage.

reply

I'm too far away to have seen anything, and after the minor accident I got last time, I'm not ever looking at a solar eclipse again unless it's with a homemade pinhole camera or on video.
