As long as we have the song and artist, we can find it on our own. We have no way of knowing whether a video will play in a particular country, do we?

reply

the first one i was in canada. the second video i turned on the usa vpn.

reply

Ah. Okay.

Ya know, I have no idea whether my dad had a favorite song or not. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

reply

my father insisted on singing them over and over.

reply

Actually, I don't know my mom's either. I know she was a big Frank Sinatra fan, but that's all I know.

reply

my mother's favorite would be welcome to my world by dean martin.

reply

MY GRANDMOTHER USED TO TELL ME HOW HER SISTER AND HER CALLED HIM FRANKIE BABY AND WERE ABSOLUTELY INSANE FOR HIM.

reply

Is it a fat angel

reply

you are not a fan?

reply

He's a chubby angel chaser.

reply

Just referring to/poking fun at the "Speaking of Angels" thread.

I like Charlie Pride.

reply

now i get it

reply

A bit too Country for me.

reply

you lived in america. come on.

reply

I do like Country to a degree, until it becomes too Country (if that makes sense).

reply

I'm assuming this is what you mean by "too Country." 😁 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJZY__j0Tyk

reply

That was probably on the borderline, lol.

reply

If you consider that borderline, then you should be able to handle a lot of CW music. 😁

reply

that's gordie tapp on the left, i do believe, who was canadian

reply

I looked it up and you're right. That's some interesting trivia I was never aware of. He makes a pretty good midwestern hick. 😁

reply

he was born just west of toronto. nowhere near the american south or midwest but was able to pull it off for so many years.

reply

It's such a great song and Charley Pride was such a great singer. He was featured quite a bit in the Ken Burns documentary "Country Music" and came across so well.

Little bit of trivia...if I remember correctly, Charley Pride was actually a minor-league baseball player before he became a country music singer...talented guy.

reply

He was also a regular on a weekly, country western, comedy/variety show called Hee Haw.
Here's one of his appearances there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrSFKAHl0HY

reply

Oh, yes...both of my parents were from Appalachia, so we watched "Hee Haw" every Saturday night! πŸ˜ƒ Thanks for posting!

reply

I've been to Appalachia. That is some stunningly beautiful country.

reply

Yes, it is so beautiful...and it's such a big "swath" of the eastern/southeastern part of the U.S. My dad was from southeastern Kentucky and my mom was from southern Ohio...such beautiful country (as you said), but so much poverty as well.

reply

I remember a trip I took to Virginia once when I reached a point in the mountains where I was about to cross the state line and the sign there read: 'Welcome to Virginia, Virginia is for lovers.' That slogan and the landscape in front of me compelled me to stop for awhile, just so I could process that experience.

My dad was stationed in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky during one of his assignments and we lived just across the state line from there in Clarksville, Tennessee.

You've mentioned Ohio here today. One of my closest friends from high school wound up retiring in a town called Patriot, Ohio. Are you familiar with it?

reply

YES!!!!! Wow, I never would have expected someone on here to mention Patriot, Ohio! πŸ˜ƒ

It's not far at all from my hometown. I haven't been there a whole lot (It's one of those "Blink and you'll miss it" places), but I have been there. Yes, it's a beautiful part of the state. Good for your friend for retiring there!

Yes, I think Virginia and Kentucky are beautiful also. My dad was born near where "The Dukes Of Hazzard" was set (There actually is a "Hazard County" in Kentucky). I was there one time when I was a teenager...to attend my grandfather's funeral (my dad's dad).

This was just too cool...thanks for posting that!

reply

Yeah, he did say it was small and that he had a nice country home there. I'm not sure how he chose that area but fishing has got to be one reason. He was a lifelong avid fisherman. I used to go on regular fishing trips with him, his dad and grandfather. Those are some fond memories. He once sent me a great picture of a beautiful catch he had made that looks very much like this: https://simplecirc.com/subscribe/louisiana-sportsman

Yeah, I've really enjoyed this chat with you as well. It's been nostalgic for me.

reply

Ah, his being a fisherman would explain a lot! πŸ˜ƒ There are a lot of great fishing places in that area (people used to fish a lot for catfish in the Ohio River). Good for him!

reply

Yeah, catfish are abundant here also and we specifically went after them. After some reflection, I'm vaguely starting to remember he might have discovered that area through his wife and her background.

reply

Video not available here but ALEXA found it for me.
Quite nice and to be honest I was unaware of the guy but I'm playing more of his stuff out in the garage now. Good stuff.

reply

Believe it or not my ten year old niece has this on one of her spotify playlists, and was introduced to it as I was by my mother. Just interesting to see another generation so young enjoying his music.

reply

i am surprised at how many people on here have heard of charley.
